Authorities revealed on Tuesday that they arrested over two dozen individuals illegally residing in the United States during a series of operations at construction sites across Florida.
These enforcement actions occurred in Wildwood, a city located in Sumter County, approximately one hour northwest of Orlando. Homeland Security Investigations, or HSI Tampa, provided details of the raids through a post on social media.
The operation specifically targeted worksite enforcement encounters, with videos from the scene showing agents navigating through neighborhoods filled with newly constructed homes. While footage did not capture any arrests in the act, a photo shared by HSI Tampa appeared to show an arrest taking place at one of the construction sites.
The apprehended individuals included immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. Authorities indicated that some of the arrested individuals had previous deportations. However, it remains unclear whether any had prior arrests or criminal convictions.
Currently, HSI Tampa has not released the total number of arrests made in the operation.
HSI Tampa emphasized its ongoing efforts to investigate whether construction companies in this rapidly growing region are employing individuals who are in violation of federal immigration laws. They stated, “We are diligently working to determine if construction companies are employing illegal aliens.”
