House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, is demanding that several senior staffers from former President Joe Biden’s White House testify in transcribed interviews. These staffers are suspected of playing a significant role in what he describes as a cover-up regarding the former president’s notable mental decline during his time in office.
Comer, who leads the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has issued requests for interviews with four prominent Biden aides. These include Neera Tanden, former director of the Domestic Policy Council; Annie Tomasini, former assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff; Anthony Bernal, previously a senior adviser to the first lady; and Ashley Williams, former deputy director of Oval Office operations.
The Chairman has emphasized that these individuals worked behind the scenes, allegedly attempting to shield the public from President Biden’s deteriorating condition while in office.
In addition to the aides, Comer is also seeking a transcribed interview with Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor. During an interview last week, Comer expressed concerns that these unelected officials wielded undue influence over Biden, potentially functioning as de facto presidents in his place.
Comer stated, “Today, we are calling on President Biden’s physician and former White House advisors to participate in transcribed interviews so we can begin to uncover the truth.” His remarks signal a growing push for transparency amid mounting questions about President Biden’s health.
This initiative follows the release of the book titled “Original Sin,” authored by CNN host Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson. The book alleges that the Biden White House took extensive measures to manage how the public perceives the aging president’s declining health. It reveals efforts to control the narrative surrounding Biden’s mental state and his decision to run for re-election despite these concerns.
During a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Tapper described the attempts by Biden’s aides to conceal his condition as potentially “even worse” than the infamous Watergate scandal. He remarked, “It is a scandal. It is without question, and maybe even worse than Watergate in some ways.” Tapper’s comments further highlight the gravity of the situation, suggesting a significant breach of public trust.
In his correspondence, Comer underscored that the investigation into the alleged cover-up has been ongoing for nearly a year. However, recent revelations surrounding President Biden’s evident decline necessitate renewed examination of the actions and knowledge of White House personnel during the previous administration.
Comer stated, “We want to understand who made key decisions and exercised the powers of the executive branch during the Biden Administration.” This line of inquiry reflects a growing interest among lawmakers to hold individuals accountable for any potential mismanagement or failure to address the president’s health issues appropriately.
The Chairman characterized the cover-up of President Biden’s mental decline as a historic scandal, asserting that the American public deserves clarity on when this decline began, its extent, and who made critical decisions on Biden’s behalf.
He recalled previous attempts by the Oversight Committee to subpoena these staff members, noting that the Biden White House had obstructed these efforts. Comer warned that any further attempts to inhibit the testimony of these aides or the physician will lead to prompt action, including possible subpoenas to compel them to testify.
On Tuesday, Comer hinted that former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, as well as Hunter Biden and Jill Biden, could also face subpoenas. He remarked, “Obviously, we’re interested in Jean-Pierre… We’re also interested in Jill Biden and Hunter Biden,” indicating a broadening of the investigation based on the evidence gathered. He added that if the investigation progresses, they will continue to follow the leads that emerge.
Fox News Digital reached out to Tanden, Tomasini, Bernal, Williams, O’Connor, and Jean-Pierre requesting comments on this emerging story. As pressure mounts for transcribed interviews, the commitment to uncover the truth surrounding President Biden’s health remains firmly on the committee’s agenda.
In the weeks ahead, the House Oversight Committee’s efforts will likely intensify as they seek to navigate the complexities of this issue. Observers will watch closely to see how the testimonies from these aides and medical professionals shed light on the president’s condition and the administration’s response.
