A former CIA station chief has raised alarm about China’s ongoing espionage operations, which target U.S. military personnel and government employees. The warning comes amid rising tensions between the two nations and growing concerns about national security.
In early March, two active-duty Army soldiers, Jian Zhao and Li Tian, were arrested for allegedly selling classified information to persons associated with the Chinese government. According to the Department of Justice, both were indicted by federal grand juries in Washington and Oregon.
Federal prosecutors assert that Tian provided sensitive military intel to Ruoyu Duan, a former soldier who reportedly funneled money from individuals in China. It is claimed that Tian received tens of thousands of dollars for this sensitive information.
The documents involved included a link to a Google Drive filled with classified materials related to the Stryker combat vehicle. Additionally, Tian is accused of transmitting information about U.S. weapons systems, which poses severe risks to national security.
