Max Homa faced a significant challenge as he attempted to qualify for the upcoming U.S. Open at Oakmont. Lacking the necessary exemptions, he turned to a qualifier held in Ohio, which unfolded on a pivotal Monday.
Known as Golf’s Longest Day, this qualifying event saw Homa competing alongside other prominent players, including Rickie Fowler, Cameron Young, Bud Cauley, Jake Knapp, Padraig Harrington, and Adam Hadwin. They all aimed to secure one of the limited spots available for the prestigious event at ten different locations nationwide.
Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club hosted six of these qualifying opportunities. Players were in for a grueling day with two rounds of golf. After completing his 36th hole, Homa found himself in a tense five-man playoff. Alongside Fowler, Young, Eric Cole, and Chase Johnson, he battled for the coveted qualification. In the end, Young triumphed with a birdie on the 38th hole, claiming the last available position.
