Recent drone footage revealing an intense gunfight between rival cartels just south of the U.S. border with Mexico has raised alarms about the persistent danger in the area. Republican Congressman Chip Roy from Texas has emphasized the severity of the situation following this compelling video evidence.
The startling footage, which Roy obtained from his border sources, shows drone activity operated by cartel members targeting another group of armed individuals. In a dramatic twist, the drone operator appears to drop a missile, presumably aimed to eliminate shooters from one faction.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Congressman Roy expressed his concerns regarding the implications of cartels possessing drones capable of armed attacks. He stated, “The fact that these cartels are employing drones with weapon capabilities opens up a whole other frontier that we must manage regarding border security.”
Roy elaborated, noting that the footage illustrates the sophistication and reach of cartel operations. “Seeing this documented violence adds to our understanding of the significant resources the cartels command and the health risk it poses to our communities,” he remarked.
This alarming incident follows closely on the heels of another gunfire exchange involving U.S. Border Patrol agents and suspected cartel members in Fronton, Texas. “We’re witnessing a troubling trend of escalated violence,” Roy noted. This escalation coincides with the ongoing attempts by the Trump administration to tighten controls on illegal immigration and combat migrant-related crime.
Roy speculated that the cartel’s responses may intensify as they adapt to the heightened enforcement from U.S. authorities. “The cartels now realize that there is a determined attitude towards border security in the United States. They will likely shift their tactics to manipulate local law enforcement and military forces in Mexico.”
In light of recent events, Roy foresees greater collaboration between U.S. officials and Mexican authorities to counter the surge in cartel violence. He believes that Trump, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will take meaningful steps to bolster Mexico’s enforcement capabilities to establish rule of law and dismantle cartel networks.
Roy has introduced legislation aimed at designating cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations.” He stated that President Trump’s executive order supporting this effort could be a significant step in combating cartel influence in both countries. “By recognizing these threats for what they are, we can take action more effectively,” he asserted.
Noting the current administration’s heightened focus on border security, Roy claimed, “This administration has already established a stronger presence at the border compared to the entire four years of the Biden administration. The cartels are becoming aware that the U.S. has a president who is serious about border enforcement.”
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has yet to comment specifically on the drone footage. However, a CBP spokesperson assured Fox News Digital, “Threats and assaults against CBP personnel are taken very seriously. We remain vigilant in ensuring the safety of our personnel, migrants, and local communities, alongside securing our borders.”
As cartel tensions simmer just beyond the border, Congress and administration responses signal a potential turning point in America’s fight against organized crime. While the threats posed by these groups remain significant, the concerted effort by U.S. and Mexican officials may redefine successful strategies against cartel influence in the region.
