Sunny Hostin Critiques ICE Role Amid Protests in Los Angeles

On Tuesday, Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View,” stirred controversy by asserting that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, commonly known as ICE, is at the heart of the unrest currently seen in Los Angeles.

While addressing the protests unfolding in LA, Hostin mentioned conversations with local residents who described the demonstrations as orderly and non-violent. She stated, “I spoke to five people that live in LA and work in LA, and they said the protests were very, very orderly, they weren’t violent, and they occurred in about a four-block radius. And we all know how large LA is. Therefore, in my view, there is no crisis in Los Angeles that ICE did not cause. That is the fact of the matter, right?” Hostin remarked.

Protests and Presidential Policies

During her commentary, Hostin linked the protests to the Trump administration’s controversial objective of arresting 3,000 illegal immigrants daily. She speculated that there is a broader strategy at work behind these targeted actions.

She further added, “Trump is militarizing that state as a test run, to ensure that he can implement these tactics in cities like New York and other sanctuary cities. Clearly, there is a plan to this situation. The LAPD, which comprises 9,000 police officers, could have managed the protests effectively without deploying 4,700 troops.”

National Guard Deployed Amid Tensions

In response to the escalating tensions, President Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops over the weekend to protect federal properties within the city. The very next day, an additional 500 U.S. Marines received orders to mobilize to address the rising unrest.

In the midst of this discussion, co-host Joy Behar weighed in, suggesting that Trump may be using the situation as a distraction from pressing issues, including economic tariffs and internal conflicts within his administration, such as a reported disagreement with entrepreneur Elon Musk. Behar commented, “His tariffs are tanking the economy, and even the Senate is losing interest in significant legislation. What’s a better distraction than witnessing the chaos in Los Angeles? I’ve seen similar situations before, and sadly, they sometimes result in innocent lives lost.”
