Former President Donald Trump disclosed in an interview with Fox News Channel’s chief political anchor Bret Baier that he was informed about Israel’s earlier military actions against Iran. This revelation comes amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East, specifically regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
During the interview, Trump expressed his concerns, stating, “Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb, and we are hoping to get back to the negotiating table. We will see. There are several people in leadership in Iran that will not be coming back.” His comments reflect ongoing discussions regarding nuclear negotiations and the regional power dynamics at play.
The Israeli strikes on Iranian targets resulted in the deaths of three prominent military leaders. Among those killed were Hossein Salami, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, and Commander of Iran’s Emergency Command Gholam-Ali Rashid. These losses signal a significant blow to Iran’s military leadership.
In recent days, Trump has maintained communication with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, indicating a close partnership between the former U.S. administration and Israeli leadership during this critical period.
Reports emerged that the Trump administration communicated with at least one significant Middle Eastern ally to notify them of the impending strikes. However, it was clarified that the United States did not play a role in the execution of these military actions.
Trump expressed his hopes for renewed negotiations with Iran, although Iranian officials have indicated a reluctance to engage further. A scheduled meeting between U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian counterparts in Oman was set for Sunday.
According to military sources, Israeli forces deployed approximately 200 fighter jets to execute the strikes. These military operations targeted critical infrastructure, which included the destruction of numerous radars, surface-to-air missile launchers, and even nuclear facilities.
In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched around 100 drones towards Israel just hours after the strikes, demonstrating the heightened state of urgency and potential conflict in the region. Israeli defense forces claimed they are diligently working to intercept these incoming threats.
Trump stated that he is closely monitoring the situation for any signs of retaliation from Iran. U.S. Central Command, known as CENTCOM, has been placed on high alert, preparing for potential defensive actions. He emphasized that the United States stands ready to defend both itself and its ally Israel in the face of Iranian aggression.
In anticipation of escalation, the U.S. has recently fortified its missile defense, including the replenishment of Iron Dome interceptors that provide critical support against missile threats.
President Trump is slated to attend a National Security Council meeting later on Friday morning as tensions continue to rise. This meeting is likely to address strategies regarding U.S. involvement in regional conflicts and broader Middle East policies.
The developments surrounding this situation have drawn international attention, as the implications of these military actions extend beyond the immediate borders of Iran and Israel. Analysts and policymakers are closely watching how this conflict may influence U.S. foreign relations and stability in the region.
