Israel’s recent precision strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure may create a unique strategic opening for the U.S. experts assert. The Biden administration might leverage this moment to exert pressure on Tehran concerning a nuclear agreement that diplomatic channels alone could not achieve.
The Israeli military confirmed that the operation was executed by Israeli forces while maintaining coordination with U.S. officials. Although American troops did not directly engage in the strikes, defense cooperation remained active during the operation, including assistance during Iran’s missile retaliation on recent days when U.S. forces helped intercept Iranian missiles aimed at Israeli cities.
An official from the Israel Defense Forces indicated that there was substantial communication and intelligence-sharing with U.S. counterparts throughout the operation, emphasizing the collaborative response to Iran’s aggression.
Israeli Strategy Builds U.S.-Iran Tension
Avner Golov, the vice president of Mind Israel, outlined the intricate dynamics at play, stating that Israel is not attempting to lead the U.S. into conflict. Instead, he highlighted Israel’s proactive measures as a model for responsible allyship, focusing on achieving results while minimizing America’s military involvement.
Golov further asserted that war is not desirable, acknowledging Israel’s rapid and effective military response which serves as a testament to their strategic planning. He reaffirmed that prolonging conflict is not in Israel’s interest and that a collaborative approach allows the U.S. to retain global influence without heavy investment.
Robert Greenway, director of the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation, noted that the current U.S. messaging delineates the strikes as Israeli actions, a strategy designed to minimize the risk of retaliation against American assets. He pointed out that should U.S. interests suffer from Iranian aggression, America would inevitably become involved, given Iran’s previous failures to effectively handle both Israel and the United States.
Greenway underscored that President Biden’s intention for a diplomatic resolution remains genuine, despite recognizing the slim prospects for success. He believes even a remote chance of negotiating with Iran is worth exploring.
A Calculated Military-Diplomatic Approach
Nadav Eyal, an Israeli analyst and Yediot Ahronot journalist, described the strikes as part of a strategic
