Liz Flynt Discusses Hustler’s Evolution Amid OnlyFans Growth and Her Late Husband’s Legacy

The emergence of OnlyFans has not shaken the resolve of Liz Flynt, the widow of Larry Flynt. As the chairwoman of Hustler magazine, Liz is committed to preserving the legacy of her late husband while leading the adult entertainment empire he built.

In her recently published book, “HUSTLER®50: 50 Years of Freedom,” Liz chronicles the provocative brand’s journey through five decades marked by significant political and social changes. Larry Flynt, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 78, left behind a complex legacy intertwined with the evolution of adult entertainment.

Exploring Future Opportunities

During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Liz expressed openness to the idea of creating a subscription-based service akin to OnlyFans. In previous discussions, she noted that Hustler does not currently feature content generated by its users. The reason lies in the challenging task of verifying the age of performers, and her commitment to high-quality content remains a priority.

“It would be nice to come up with something like [OnlyFans],” Liz remarked. “But right now, I don’t have anything in the pipeline. We are constantly brainstorming new ideas at our monthly and weekly meetings, looking for fresh avenues to expand the company.”

Adapting to Industry Changes

The pandemic saw many sex workers turn to platforms like OnlyFans for income as traditional venues shuttered due to health concerns. This shift created new revenue opportunities, with some creators reportedly earning thousands of dollars monthly. OnlyFans claimed 130 million users and two million creators who have collectively earned $5 billion by 2021.

Liz understands the competitive landscape. “We remain a monthly publication, but we are always exploring innovative ideas to keep the company relevant, including advancements in technology,” she explained. “Larry diversified the company in the early ‘90s by entering video, broadcast, retail, and gaming. Today, we operate 60 Hustler Hollywood retail stores.”

Under Liz’s leadership, she expanded the brand by opening 20 additional locations and acquiring 40 stores from Playboy Enterprises. She also initiated Hustler Casino Live, a livestream poker operation, and partnered with DoorDash to deliver products from Hustler Hollywood stores, positioning Hustler as a pioneer in the adult industry.

The Complex Legacy of Larry Flynt

Larry Flynt, a former strip club owner, transformed Hustler into a powerhouse that extended its reach into casinos, films, and various online platforms while fiercely advocating for First Amendment rights. His vision led to the production of not only Hustler but other niche publications and hundreds of adult-oriented websites.

Flynt was unafraid to push cultural boundaries, often generating controversy with his graphic content. Unlike other magazines, Hustler showcased more explicit imagery, challenging societal norms. Flynt famously regarded pornography as an art form, stating, “Pornography is really the purest form of art.”

Continuing a Vision

Liz believes in the mission her husband championed throughout his career. “Our bodies are the purest form of art,” she asserted. “Beauty has been celebrated in photography for decades, and I see nothing wrong with it. Figures like Hugh Hefner and Bob Guccione paved the way for Larry’s work, and I embrace the artistic representation of women in our content.”

Throughout his life, Larry Flynt faced criticism for some of his publication’s more provocative covers, one of which shocked readers in 1978 by depicting a woman being fed into a meat grinder. Liz recalled Larry’s steadfast commitment to the magazine’s controversial spirit, never shying away from challenging authority. The backlash he received included public criticism from notable figures.

Flynt’s Personal Journey

Liz Flynt first crossed paths with Larry in 1991 when she worked as a nurse after he had survived a near-fatal assassination attempt. Their relationship developed over time, leading them to marry in 1998. Despite the notoriety that surrounded Larry, Liz described their life together as surprisingly normal. “Larry was a fun-loving husband, always affectionate and generous,” she shared. “He loved to travel, and I always felt cherished and well-cared for.”

Even in personal matters, Larry often offered advice, at times acting as a confidante for friends such as Woody Harrelson. Harrelson shared how Larry supported his wife Laura during tough times in their relationship.

Committing to the Future of Hustler

Today, Liz Flynt is dedicated to ensuring her husband’s legacy of advocating for freedom of speech lives on. She reflects on the importance of capturing the story of Hustler magazine and maintaining its relevance in the adult entertainment industry. “My husband didn’t live long enough to write this book,” she remarked. “As the chairwoman and beneficiary of the company, I am committed to running Hustler and ensuring its growth continues.”

As the adult industry evolves, Liz Flynt stands poised to navigate new challenges, balancing her husband’s provocative legacy with modern opportunities. Hustler’s journey is far from over, and Liz Flynt intends to keep the fires of innovation burning bright.
