A former staff member of the Clinton National Security Council has diverged from party lines, praising President Donald Trump’s decisive military action in Iran during the weekend. At the same time, he expressed doubts about former Vice President Kamala Harris’s potential resolve if she held the presidential office.
Jamie Metzl, the founder of One Shared World, openly acknowledged Trump’s commitment to defending national interests. He made these remarks in a post to social media platform X, emphasizing that while he often disagrees with Trump, he recognizes the importance of bold measures in safeguarding America’s interests.
Metzl, who once held a significant role in former President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council and served as deputy staff director for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, took the opportunity to commend Trump’s actions on the platform. Moreover, he made pointed remarks about Harris’s perceived lack of courage and fortitude in foreign policy matters.
He stated, “I’m not a blind tribalist and am perfectly comfortable praising President Trump for bold and courageous actions in support of America’s core national interests.” This public endorsement came shortly after Trump conducted military strikes aimed at Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Metzl further elaborated that while he believes electing Harris would have been preferable for the country’s democratic future and economic landscape, he doubts her capability to make essential decisions like the recent military action taken by Trump.
In his ongoing commentary, Metzl reminded audiences that Iran has waged a form of war against the United States for an extended 46 years. He noted concerns regarding Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapon, emphasizing the dangers it poses not only to the U.S. but also to its allies across the globe.
