Vice President JD Vance stands on the verge of delivering the crucial tiebreaking vote in the U.S. Senate for President Donald Trump’s much-anticipated bill, which may falter without adequate backing from Republican lawmakers.
The Republican party is rapidly working to reform and secure passage of the legislation ahead of Trump’s July 4 deadline. Recently, Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled that several Medicaid reforms included in this broad tax and domestic policy package do not align with Senate rules and must be eliminated.
The vice president plays a vital role as the president of the Senate, casting the tiebreaking vote when measures lack majority support.

Currently, the Senate comprises 53 Republicans. Even if three Republican senators choose not to back the bill, its passage remains possible with Vance’s support.
Vance has previously exercised his tiebreaking authority, including in January when he confirmed Trump’s Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth, and in April to restrict Trump’s ability to impose global tariffs.
Officials from Vance’s office declined to provide comments to Fox News Digital regarding his upcoming decision.
