President Donald Trump has urged House Republicans to finalize his ambitious legislation, which he describes as a ‘big, beautiful bill,’ by July 4. In his address, Trump emphasized that the American electorate sent lawmakers to Washington, D.C. with a clear mandate to deliver results.
While nearly all Republicans in the Senate backed the $3.3 trillion legislation, three GOP senators — Thom Tillis from North Carolina, Rand Paul from Kentucky, and Susan Collins from Maine — voted against it. Notably, no Democrats in the Senate crossed party lines to support the bill.
Following the Senate’s approval, Trump took to Truth Social to rally his base. He proclaimed that the bill is no longer confined to either the House or the Senate, but rather it has become a collective effort, referred to as ‘everyone’s Bill.’
In his message, Trump highlighted the significant policy gains that Republicans have achieved and presented the legislation as a major victory for the party.
Trump asserted that the American populace stands to gain the most from this bill, promising ‘permanently lower taxes, higher wages and take-home pay, secure borders, and a stronger and more powerful military.’
Furthermore, he claimed that essential social programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security would not face cuts; instead, they would be ‘strengthened and protected’ from what he termed the ‘radical and destructive’ actions of Democrats. Trump suggested that eliminating waste and fraud from these programs would ensure better protection for American citizens.
He continued to implore House Republicans to unite behind the legislation and to disregard any dissenters within their ranks, whom he referred to as ‘grandstanders.’ Trump insisted that acting decisively will allow for timely delivery of the bill to his desk.
In a recent poll, American public opinion showed mixed feelings regarding the proposed legislation. However, Trump insists that the benefits outlined in the bill warrant prompt action.
Trump reminded Republicans that their timeline is critical, urging them to maintain momentum so they can celebrate Independence Day with their families. He stated, ‘The American People need and deserve it. They sent us here to get it done!
‘Our country is poised for tremendous growth, even more than what we have already seen since my re-election,’ Trump declared. He argued that this legislation, coupled with tariffs and other economic measures, sets the United States on a path to significantly reduce the federal deficit and foster a new era of prosperity.
In a bold statement, he described the bill as paving the way for the country’s ‘golden age.’
Addressing his allies in the House, Trump urged them to stay united, enjoy their time off, and cast votes in favor of the bill. He ended his message with an emphatic ‘God Bless You All.’
The bill is now set to be considered in the House, where tensions are already brewing. Members of the House Freedom Caucus have expressed dissatisfaction with what they perceive as inadequate spending cuts. Moderates within the party also have concerns regarding potential reductions to Medicaid, leading to uncertainty about the bill’s fate in the chamber.
Despite these challenges, GOP leaders remain committed to sending the legislation to Trump by Friday, staying optimistic that party unity will secure its passage.
