Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, voiced strong criticism directed towards his Democratic colleagues who have utilized inflammatory language against immigration enforcement officials. This statement followed alarming incidents involving attacks on both ICE and Border Patrol facilities located in Texas.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Hawley emphasized the need for lawmakers to prioritize the concerns of their constituents instead of seeking fleeting media attention. He remarked that the focus should be on constructive dialogue rather than sensationalism.

The senator specifically called out Democrats who condemned ICE officers for wearing masks during operations. Notably, Representative Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat from Washington, accused the officers of behaving like a “terrorist force.”

“Knock it off,” Hawley urged his Democratic counterparts. “These are the same individuals who supported masking our children. I don’t wish to hear any complaints about ICE officers wearing masks from them.”

Hawley’s remarks came in the wake of his announcement regarding the successful passage of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, a key piece of legislation he helped to implement alongside prominent Democrats, including former Representative Cori Bush and various members of the NAACP.

The sentiment echoed by Hawley aligns with comments made by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on the same day. She urged Democratic representatives to restrain their rhetoric regarding ICE agents.

Leavitt specifically called on Democrats such as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York to engage directly with agents from ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). “We certainly call on Democrats to tone down their rhetoric against ICE and Border Patrol agents, who are everyday men and women. I would encourage AOC and other Democrats to make time for discussions with United States Border Patrol,” she stated during a press briefing.

Leavitt emphasized the humanity of these professionals, highlighting that they are dedicated Americans trying to uphold the law. She continued by noting that these agents return to their families each evening, underscoring their deserving treatment with respect and dignity as they work to enforce immigration laws and safeguard communities.

Recent Violence Against Immigration Officers

The discourse surrounding the rhetoric from Democratic leaders intensified following a series of attacks targeting ICE and Border Patrol installations in Texas. Law enforcement officials reported a deadly incident in which a gunman opened fire on Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley.

Officials from the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that agents, together with local police, neutralized the shooter; fortunately, no Border Patrol officers were killed during the incident, although a local police officer sustained injuries from gunfire.

This violent event followed another shooting near the Prairieland Detention Facility managed by ICE, where a Texas police officer was critically injured.
