Today, McLean embraces his sobriety day by day. He stated, “I’m sober today. I can’t tell you what’s going to happen tomorrow. I stay in the now. I stay in the moment. I take everything in.” This mindset has allowed him to cultivate a newfound confidence—a feeling he describes as empowering rather than arrogant.

This transformation stems from hard work and ongoing commitment to his recovery. McLean recognizes that maintaining his sobriety requires continuous effort. He recounted experiences where he would indulge in alcohol but quickly return to sobriety. “I can do short bursts and I’m OK,” he recalled, highlighting that his relapses did not typically spiral out of control.

Despite this challenging history, McLean believes he has narrowly escaped severe consequences. He mentioned the close calls he has experienced with substances, notably stating, “I don’t have another relapse in me. It will not end the lucky way it has ended in the past when I’ve dodged bullets and never went to jail, never got a DUI.” His acknowledgment of the gravity of his circumstances demonstrates a profound understanding of the potential dangers that accompany addiction.

McLean takes his role as a father very seriously, especially in light of his past.
