America’s breathtaking landscapes and wide-open spaces have inspired generations of citizens. The westward expansion taught us valuable lessons in working with our land. The establishment of national parks aimed to protect the varied geography across the nation, fostering economic prosperity while nurturing a collective commitment to preserving our natural resources for future generations.
However, the environment has increasingly become a battleground for partisan politics over the past few decades. Consequently, we have witnessed a significant failure among our nation’s leaders to enact sustainable and balanced environmental policies. Issues that once transcended political divides have become mired in gridlock, yielding minimal progress in this critical area.
This prolonged period of mismanagement, regulatory excess, and neglect has plunged America’s natural resources into a state of crisis. Although recent bipartisan efforts, like the Great American Outdoors Act, have shown promise, many issues with widespread support remain ensnared in political stalemate.
The National Park System currently contends with a staggering $23 billion debt. Inadequate forest management has exacerbated catastrophic wildfires, which cost the nation an estimated $394 billion to $893 billion annually. Moreover, overly restrictive regulations have curtailed hunting and recreational access to public lands. Ecological systems and wildlife populations are suffering, while our water infrastructure struggles to support both agricultural needs and community health.
It is imperative that we take decisive action to rectify these challenges and prioritize the conservation of our natural heritage and resources. This commitment must center on all Americans, seeking to restore our landscapes and protect our shared love for the outdoors.
In recognition of this urgent need, President Donald Trump took the significant step of signing an executive order aimed at revitalizing America’s natural beauty. This order, dubbed “Make America Beautiful Again,” signifies the beginning of a proactive approach to environmental conservation through strong leadership, innovative strategies, and practical policies.
The executive order establishes the Make America Beautiful Again Commission. This commission will be composed of a politically diverse group of elected officials, experts, nonprofit leaders, and stakeholders from various backgrounds.
