2025 MLB All-Star Game Returns to Atlanta After Controversial Voting Law Debacle

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will take place at Truist Park in Cumberland, Georgia. This eagerly awaited matchup is set for Tuesday night, with the American League aiming to continue its dominance over the National League.

Historically, the American League has outperformed the National League in recent years, winning 10 of the last 11 games. An asterisk remains by the 2020 season in which the game was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The National League claimed victory in 2023, but the American League swiftly avenged their previous loss in Arlington, Texas last season.

This event marks the first time the All-Star Game will be hosted at the home of the Atlanta Braves since the franchise played at Turner Field in 2000.

A History Marked by Controversy

The Braves originally had the opportunity to host the 2021 All-Star Game at Truist Park. However, the game was stripped away amid widespread backlash regarding Georgia’s controversial voting law. Known as the Election Integrity Act of 2021, this legislation introduced stringent new voting by mail restrictions, mandated photo ID requirements, and limited ballot drop box availability. Notably, former President Joe Biden described the law as “Jim Crow on steroids.”

Support from State Leadership

On Monday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp publicly praised Major League Baseball for reinstating the All-Star Game in Atlanta, emphasizing the potential economic benefits for local businesses.

“We’re excited about the game finally being here,” Kemp stated during an appearance on the “Fox & Friends” show. “It should have been here several years ago. They never should have pulled it to start with, but thankfully the game’s coming back.”

Kemp highlighted the significance of this event for the Braves organization, local vendors, and the broader community in Cobb County and the entire state.

The Voting Law Still Looms

Despite the festive atmosphere surrounding the All-Star Game, the contentious voting law remains in effect as baseball fans converge on Atlanta.

A Look at the Matchup

All-Star festivities promise exciting encounters on the diamond, with reigning American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers set to take the mound against National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes, a star for the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was New York Yankees’ All-Star Max Fried who graciously handed Skubal the starting opportunity, believing he deserved the honor.

American League Probable Starters

The American League team will be managed by Aaron Boone of the Yankees. Notably, he has a solid track record in these high-pressure situations.

National League Probable Starters

Leading the National League team will be Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, bringing extensive experience and tactical knowledge to the game.

The MLB All-Star Game will be broadcast on FOX, slated to begin at 8 p.m. ET, with comprehensive coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET. As a showcase of baseball talent, this year’s All-Star Game promises to deliver both thrilling competition and a vibrant atmosphere for fans in attendance.

This year’s matchup stands as a crucial moment for the Braves organization, Atlanta’s local businesses, and the fans who eagerly await this cherished annual tradition. With its storied history and recent challenges, the return of the MLB All-Star Game to Atlanta symbolizes resilience and a renewed spirit for the community.
