VAN NUYS, California – A suspect charged with the murders of an ‘American Idol’ music executive and her husband made his first court appearance on Thursday in Southern California. The allegations against Raymond Boodarian, a 22-year-old, include two counts of murder and one count of first-degree burglary.
Deputy District Attorney Hilary Williams disclosed that special circumstances were added to the murder charges during a hearing at the Van Nuys courthouse. Notably, Boodarian concealed himself behind a door throughout the proceedings.
During the investigation, authorities arrested Boodarian on Tuesday. He is currently being held without bail, accused of killing the couple in their Encino residence.
LAPD Lieutenant Guy Golan previously informed Fox News Digital that officers apprehended Boodarian at his home, located near the 19,000 block of Vanowen Street, without incident.
At this point, Boodarian had not provided any statements to investigators, who are pursuing the murder charges further.
Robin Kaye, a prominent music supervisor credited with over 300 episodes of the beloved singing competition show ‘American Idol,’ and her husband, Thomas Deluca, were discovered dead in their home on Monday, July 14.
Family representatives expressed their condolences regarding the tragic loss of the couple. They stated, “Sorry for everything that has happened. And sorry for the couple that have lost their lives.”
According to LAPD reports, Kaye and Deluca suffered multiple gunshot wounds, leading investigators to believe that this double homicide may have been a random act of violence.
As the investigation unfolds, Lieutenant Golan emphasized the necessity of identifying a motive for the crime. Currently, no links between Boodarian and the victims have been established. Golan noted that Boodarian’s identity was confirmed via surveillance footage obtained from the scene.
“We still don’t know if the suspect drove to the scene or if he walked, took a bus, or an Uber. We have a lot of legwork to determine the suspect’s presence at the residence, beyond the surveillance video we recovered from the house. We have the next 48 hours to conduct this investigation,” Golan elaborated.
Kaye and Deluca’s tragic end unfolded when officers responded to a welfare check request around 2:30 p.m. on July 14 at their home located in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue in Encino.
Both victims were reported to be 70 years old at the time of their deaths. The community is currently in shock as investigators continue to uncover the events surrounding this disturbing incident.
As details emerge from this evolving story, it remains crucial for authorities to find answers for the victims’ families and the public. The investigation into the motive and the circumstances of the double homicide is ongoing, and updates are likely as new information comes to light.
In an era where instances of violence can often seem senseless, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of crime. Local residents are understandably anxious as they await clarity on how such a tragedy could occur within their neighborhood.
Reporting from the courtroom and the investigative unit will continue as more developments arise in this high-profile case.
