Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Takes Legal Action
On Thursday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that he is taking legal action against U.S. Masters Swimming, commonly known as USMS. This organization boasts a large membership of over 60,000 adult swimmers who participate in various competitive events.
The lawsuit stems from a contentious incident in San Antonio, where a trans athlete, identified as a biological male, won five women’s gold medals during a recent competition. This event has sparked significant debate on the topic of gender identity in sports, highlighting the complexities surrounding trans participation in women’s events.
After the meet, several female competitors came forward, expressing their frustration and disappointment at not being informed that they were competing against a trans athlete. One swimmer stated that the experience felt deceptive, deepening the controversy surrounding the competition.
In a public message shared on X, Paxton voiced his concerns, alleging that USMS is engaged in illegal practices by allowing men to compete in women’s competitions. He criticized the organization for yielding to what he termed radical activists and declared his intent to hold USMS accountable through this lawsuit.
