Family of Missing Graduate Student in Wisconsin Calls for Public’s Help

Authorities are urgently searching for a 22-year-old graduate student who went missing early Sunday morning in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Eliotte Heinz was last spotted walking near the waterfront just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday according to reports from the La Crosse Police Department.

Prior to her disappearance, she was enjoying time with friends at Bronco’s Bar in downtown La Crosse. The bar closed at 2:30 a.m., and the walk to the location where she was last seen measured just 0.4 miles. This short journey should have taken roughly two minutes.

Despite multiple efforts by her family, friends, and local authorities, Eliotte has not yet been located, as officials confirmed in a statement.

Desperate Search for Eliotte Heinz

Eliotte Heinz stands 5 feet 4 inches tall, has blonde hair and blue eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a white T-shirt and jean shorts.

In an effort to rally support, Viterbo University shared a heartfelt message from the Heinz family on social media. The family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming community support during this trying time.

“On behalf of our entire family, thank you. The outpouring of support in the search for Eliotte has been overwhelming, and we are deeply grateful for the kindness, prayers, and encouragement from the community and beyond. Many of you have asked how you can help. At this time, the most important thing you can do is continue sharing Eliotte’s information on social media,” they stated.

Community and Law Enforcement Rally

The family urged residents of the La Crosse area to review any home security camera footage from the early hours of Sunday between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. They emphasized that even the smallest detail could potentially assist in finding their loved one.

“If you see anything that may help, please contact the La Crosse Police Department. Please continue to keep Eliotte and our family in your prayers,” the family added.

Amber Heinz, Eliotte’s mother, shared with Fox News Digital that her daughter is studying in Viterbo’s mental health counseling program.

“On Sunday morning, we tried to reach her, and we were unable to get a hold of her,” Amber Heinz explained. “We talk all the time. We talked to her that week. We were texting back and forth, but on Sunday morning when we couldn’t reach her, we knew that something was off.”

According to Amber, her daughter was simply trying to return home when she vanished.

“We’re letting the police department focus on their job, and we’re also trying to spread her picture and information as widely as possible. Our focus is on Eliotte and getting her home safely,” her mother stated.

Police Efforts Continue

Authorities are actively following up on all leads and pieces of information related to the case.

“We are just trying to stay positive and hopeful for her safe return. We are all praying for the best possible outcome, which is Eliotte coming back to us to continue her journey,” Amber said.

A Disturbingly Familiar Situation

The situation echoes the tragic case of University of South Carolina student Samantha Josephson, who was kidnapped and murdered in 2019. Josephson mistook a car for her rideshare service and was abducted, highlighting the risks young adults face during late-night outings.

While initial comparisons have been drawn between Eliotte’s case and Josephson’s, it remains unclear if Eliotte was attempting to contact a rideshare service at the time of her disappearance. Uber has not commented on the situation, while Lyft confirmed it was not involved.

Josephson’s harrowing case ended with her murderer receiving a life sentence, a stark reminder of the dangers present in similar circumstances.

Call for Information

Anyone who may have information regarding Eliotte’s whereabouts is encouraged to reach out to the police non-emergency number at 608-782-7575. Community members may also provide tips anonymously to the La Crosse Area Crime Stoppers at 608-784-TIPS or submit information online.

The La Crosse Police Department has not commented further on the situation, citing the ongoing and active investigation.

So far, Bronco’s Bar has also refrained from providing comments regarding the incident.

A Community in Mourning

The family faces an agonizing wait while the search continues. Community members have expressed their concerns through social media, sharing Eliotte’s photo and hoping for her safe return.

As the investigation unfolds, the hope remains that Eliotte will be found safe and reunited with her loved ones. The extended support from the community might prove to be a crucial element in the ongoing search for the missing graduate student.
