A House panel convened on Wednesday and voted in favor of subpoenaing former President Bill Clinton along with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. This decision marks a significant escalation in the ongoing investigation related to Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted associate of the late Jeffrey Epstein.
During a House Oversight Committee subcommittee hearing, Representative Scott Perry, a Republican from Pennsylvania, proposed a motion urging Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, to subpoena individuals with potential connections to Maxwell. Perry articulated his request by naming several high-profile figures.
“I have a motion to subpoena the following individuals to expand the full committee’s investigation into Miss Maxwell – and the list reads as follows: William Jefferson Clinton, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, James Brian Comey, Loretta Elizabeth Lynch, Eric Hampton Holder, Jr., Merrick Brian Garland, Robert Swan Mueller III, William Pelham Barr, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions the third, and Alberto Gonzales. That’s the full list, Mr. Chairman. And that’s the motion,” Perry stated.
The motion received approval through a voice vote, which did not involve an individual roll call. For the subpoenas to take effect, Chairman Comer must issue them formally.
A source from the House Oversight Committee indicated, “The subpoenas will be issued in the near future.” This anticipated action follows a push from Representative Summer Lee, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, who successfully pushed her own motion to subpoena files related to Epstein, passing her motion with an 8-to-2 vote.
In recent weeks, Republican lawmakers have faced mounting scrutiny from media regarding Epstein’s case, partially due to a recent Department of Justice memo that has effectively declared the investigation resolved. The GOP has experienced pressure as figures on the far-right criticized Trump administration officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, for failing to uphold earlier commitments to transparency.
Under Trump’s direction, the Department of Justice is currently working to unseal grand jury files pertinent to Epstein’s case. Bondi is also investigating whether Ghislaine Maxwell will cooperate with federal authorities regarding her knowledge of Epstein’s operations.
A House GOP-led motion calling for Maxwell to be subpoenaed passed unanimously in the House Oversight Committee earlier this week. Following the approval, Comer issued the subpoena.
Despite the Republican steps forward, Democrats have capitalized on the divisions within the GOP to advocate for their own calls for transparency in Epstein’s investigations. While the oversight committee hearing on Wednesday was not directly related to Epstein, it reflected a consistent strategy by Democrats to corner Republicans on this sensitive issue.
Representative Andy Biggs, a Republican from Arizona and a member of the subcommittee, took action to adapt Lee’s amendment by additionally calling for the release of communications from the Biden administration concerning Epstein.
Fox News Digital contacted the Clinton Foundation for a statement but did not receive an immediate response. The involvement of the Clintons in the Epstein investigation underscores the complex web of relationships that emerged around the disgraced financier.
The ongoing investigation into Epstein and his associates continues to unfold, drawing in politic figures from across the spectrum. The decision by the House panel to subpoena high-profile individuals signals a rising determination to hold those involved accountable.
As this situation develops, further actions from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers will likely shape the narrative surrounding Epstein’s case. The calls for transparency reflect a deepening concern among lawmakers to address the lingering questions and implications surrounding Epstein’s legacy.
In the coming weeks, as subpoenas are officially issued, the political landscape will be closely monitored by both supporters and critics of this ongoing investigation into Epstein and his associates.
