Texas A&M University’s cherished mascot, Reveille X, is on the road to recovery after undergoing a crucial surgery to address a serious health issue. University officials provided updates on her condition following the medical procedure.
The beloved collie had her right eye surgically removed after a diagnosis of glaucoma, which left her in distress. According to Texas A&M President Mark A. Welsh III, the dog had displayed signs of discomfort and cloudiness in the affected eye prior to her surgery.
Veterinarians recommended the surgical removal as a precautionary measure after noticing abnormal tissue during examinations. This proactive step aimed to ensure the health and well-being of the university’s iconic mascot.
Welsh expressed his gratitude and relief, stating, “I’m grateful to report that Miss Rev has come through the surgery successfully, has been discharged and is resting comfortably.” This news resonates not only with the Aggie community but also with all who adore the college mascot.
The tradition of the Reveille mascots at Texas A&M dates back to 1931. Originally, a group of cadets discovered an injured dog and brought her to campus. Following this heartwarming event, the dog became known as Reveille for barking in sync with the morning bugle calls.
Reveille X, the latest incarnation of this long-standing tradition, has served as the mascot since the 2021 season. Known as the “First Lady of Aggieland,” she has become a symbol of school spirit and pride. Transported on her customized golf cart, affectionately named “Rev Force One,” Reveille X is a staple presence at games and campus events.
While Reveille X will take a break from her duties to focus on her recovery, she is expected to make a triumphant return to campus events come fall. According to her veterinary team, there is hope that she will soon resume all her favorite activities, including cruising on Rev Force One, attending classes, cheering for the Aggies, and keeping the campus squirrels in check.
The Texas A&M Aggies had a solid season last year, finishing with an 8-5 record under the guidance of first-year head coach Mike Elko. The performance of the team created a sense of anticipation heading into the following season, and the presence of Reveille X adds to the excitement surrounding the Aggies’ football culture.
Reveille X is more than just a mascot; she represents the spirit and camaraderie of Texas A&M. Her daily interactions and public appearances greatly enhance the student experience, fostering a sense of unity and pride among Aggies. Her strong connection with the community showcases the deep bond between the mascot and the university.
As she recovers, the Aggie community eagerly awaits her return, cherishing the moments they get to share with Reveille X. Fans of Texas A&M are hopeful for her swift recovery, thankful for the dedicated veterinary teams taking care of her.
With a successful surgery, the future looks bright for Reveille X. Transitioning back into her role will not only revive her iconic presence on campus but will also reignite the enthusiasm of thousands of Aggies who consider her family.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming football season, support for Reveille X continues to grow, with the Texas A&M community rallying behind their beloved mascot. The joy she brings to campus life is immeasurable, and as many say, “Miss Rev is more than a pet; she’s a pillar of our university traditions.”
