EXCLUSIVE: Federal authorities have taken action against a clinic staff member in Ontario, California, who allegedly obstructed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrest, while another staff member remains unapprehended.
Earlier this month, Denis Guillen-Solis, a Honduran national working as a landscaper, reportedly fled on foot to evade law enforcement and sought refuge inside the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center, despite not being a patient there.
Bill Essayli, the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, emphasized the seriousness of the incident, stating, “This story is another example of a false narrative peddled by irresponsible members of the media, supporting a political agenda that seeks to undermine federal agents. The individual arrested in the medical center was not a patient and had no affiliation with that facility. He ran inside for cover, and during this process, certain medical workers allegedly attempted to obstruct his arrest by assaulting our agents.”
Essayli added further condemnation, asserting, “To be very clear, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you work. If you assault our agents or interfere with our operations, you will face arrest and federal charges.”
The U.S. Magistrate Judge Sheri Pym issued criminal warrants for two staff members, Jose De Jesus Ortega and Danielle Nadine Davila. They are charged with “forcible assaulting, impeding, and interfering with a federal officer involving physical contact” and “conspiring to prevent, by force and intimidation, a federal officer from performing his duties.”
Ortega was taken into custody on Friday morning, while Davila is still at large and actively sought by law enforcement.
On LinkedIn, Davila is identified as a certified surgical technologist at the center. According to the criminal complaint, she allegedly pushed the ICE officer and obstructed his path to Guillen-Solis.
The Department of Homeland Security reported that ICE officers were conducting a targeted enforcement operation with the intention of apprehending two illegal aliens. Officers, wearing clearly marked ICE bulletproof vests, approached the targets as they exited a vehicle.
One of the illegal alien targets, Denis Guillen-Solis, was from Honduras. He fled to evade law enforcement and found himself near the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center. Allegations state that hospital staff assaulted law enforcement officers, pulling both the officer and Guillen-Solis into the facility. Additionally, they purportedly aimed to obstruct the arrest by locking the doors, hindering law enforcement vehicles, and calling 911 to report a supposed ‘kidnapping’.
One clinic staff member is recorded in a video asking an ICE agent to leave, asserting, “This is private property.” Another staff member can be heard urging, “Get your hands off of him.”
In response to the incident, California Democratic Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez, who represents Ontario, publicly criticized ICE actions. Rodriguez stated, “It is devastating to witness the impact of ICE on our communities. This past Tuesday, Immigration Enforcement officers abducted constituents from a surgical center while they were simply doing their jobs.”
Rodriguez expressed her support for law enforcement that acts with integrity while condemning actions she views as cruel and unlawful. She said, “Without accountability, we are left with armed men in masks dragging people off the street. This is not safety, not justice, and it does not reflect who we should be as a society.”
