During the summer of 1943, U.S. Army Air Forces 1st Lt. Henry J. Carlin, then just 27 and hailing from Philadelphia, was among six brave crew members on a B-25C “Mitchell” bomber engaged in a critical low-altitude raid over Meiktila, Burma.

Unfortunately, the mission ended in disaster when their aircraft went down, leaving the fates of Carlin and others uncertain. In the aftermath of the conflict, he and three other crew members were declared missing in action, with their remains not recovered.
