Carrie Underwood is fully embracing her roots as a country girl. The celebrated country music star, who gained fame as the winner of American Idol, now channels her energy into a enriching life on her family farm just outside Nashville.
When not gracing stages or serving as a judge on American Idol, Underwood dedicates her time to homesteading alongside her husband, Mike Fisher, and their two sons, Isaiah and Jacob. This wholesome lifestyle includes growing produce, raising livestock, and exploring the art of canning.
Recently, Underwood shared captivating snapshots of the tomatoes and peaches she harvested from her garden. Earlier this June, she revealed her experiences with tending to sheep, lovingly documenting her journey toward a simpler existence.
In a heartfelt social media post, Underwood recounted a serene experience in her orchard. It began with her routine of feeding the animals and checking the fruits. While doing so, she felt inspired to pray.
“I love praying out loud in the orchard…it’s so beautiful and peaceful,” she expressed. However, Underwood’s tranquility was disrupted when a snake appeared in the blueberry bushes. Although it was just a non-venomous rat snake, the encounter sparked a moment of reflection.
“The devil is always there…watching…lurking…” she wrote, emphasizing the challenges of faith. “Being a Christian isn’t a free ticket out of trouble. The world is full of evil…BUT God is with us.” Her faith remained steadfast as she continued her morning ritual, undeterred by the reptilian visitor.
Before sharing her snake encounter, Underwood highlighted her recent ventures into canning. She described how preservation techniques allow her to efficiently use the results of her labor. “Canning is the perfect way to make use of everything and save myself some time later on when I need a quick meal!”
She prepared hearty soup and pot pie filling, whilst experimenting with their abundant plums. Although unsure whether she created jam or plum butter, she maintained an optimistic attitude, noting, “I’ll figure out something to do with it! I feel accomplished!!! Yay me!”
Underwood’s path to musical stardom began with her triumphant win on the fourth season of American Idol. This year, she made headlines by returning as a judge for season 23 of the show. Interestingly, she found a way to meld her professional life with her at-home endeavors by naming a newborn lamb after the season’s winner, Jamal Roberts.
During a taping in May, her passion for homesteading was further showcased. Walking onto set in a shirt she had crocheted, which featured playful tomato designs, Underwood brought a touch of farm life to the television screen.
In 2023, Underwood teamed up with Epic Gardening, a notable gardening brand known for its informative YouTube channel. This partnership saw the brand’s team visit the Underwood-Fisher farm to assist in the construction of a greenhouse, further cementing her commitment to sustainable farming.
As Underwood and Fisher settled into their home near Nashville, they prioritized gardening. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 served as a catalyst for their farming journey, enabling them to cultivate a meaningful connection with the land.
“I love the heat here in Tennessee, and it just made me happy to, you know, grow something from nothing,” she shared. Underwood described each harvest as a little miracle, relishing the satisfaction that came from their hard work in the garden.
During an appearance on The Dr. Josh Axe Show in 2023, Underwood revealed her aspiration to eventually eliminate grocery store visits altogether. Despite challenges posed by her children, she remains committed to their goal.
“I love that our meals, especially dinner, it’s like you look on our plate and everything on our plates is something that either came from the garden or my husband’s a hunter, you know. The meat is something that he got,” she stated proudly.
The farm’s philosophy revolves around seasonal eating, emphasizing the importance of fresh ingredients. Underwood asserts that everything they consume tastefully reflects the effort invested in their farming practices.
Another essential component of Underwood’s lifestyle is reducing food waste. Anything her family does not use either contributes to their chickens’ feed or becomes compost. This environmentally conscious practice showcases the sustainability efforts central to their farm’s ethos.
“It’s fun,” she remarked, expressing the joy that stemmed from engaging in these sustainable practices. “You know you’re doing something good for you. It feels good to physically do all of these things.”
As Carrie Underwood continues to navigate her career and family life, her dedication to traditional country living offers a refreshing contrast to the fast-paced entertainment industry. By cultivating her farm, she cherishes the rewards of hard work and the spiritual connection she finds within the natural world.
From her vibrant orchard to her sustainable meals, Underwood embodies an inspiring commitment to a life rooted in simplicity and purpose. As fans watch her journey unfold, they are reminded of the profound connection between faith, family, and the rewards of living close to the land.
