The chairwoman of the Los Angeles County GOP, Roxanne Hoge, a legal immigrant, asserts that pro-sanctuary Democrats are intentionally creating a “two-tiered” justice system. This system, she argues, effectively traps Latinos and immigrants in a state of permanent underclass.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Hoge, who immigrated to the U.S. in 1976 and became a citizen in 2000, detailed her perspective on how the Democratic Party, often seen as the champion of immigrants, is implementing policies that undermine their progress.
Hoge highlights a stark contrast in how the system treats law-abiding citizens versus those engaging in illegal activities. She stated, “If you’re a person who pays your taxes, obeys the law, and returns your library books, you’re a chump. If you want to start a business the right way, you’re going to be waiting for years. But if you roll up with a grocery cart of propane and raw chicken next to a homeless person, the city gives you a pass. This leads to the degradation of a once-great city.” She emphasized that California claims to provide strong employee protections while simultaneously enabling the exploitation of vulnerable workers.
Diving deeper into her critique, Hoge made controversial historical comparisons involving the Democratic Party’s past. She suggested that Democrats responded with outrage when Republicans abolished slavery, asking, “Who’s going to pick the cotton?” In her view, the current Democratic discontent with immigration enforcement reflects similar sentiments concerning labor sources. She maintained that they now ask, “Who’s going to pick our crops and our weed?” when immigration laws are enforced.
Earlier this month, federal agents conducted an immigration enforcement raid on a state-licensed cannabis facility located north of Los Angeles. During this operation, they discovered nine unaccompanied migrant children working at the facility. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott announced that the facility is under investigation for potential child labor violations.
Scott shared a photo on social media displaying the minors found, some as young as 14 years old. He questioned whether California officials are ready to collaborate on efforts to combat child exploitation, declaring, “This is Newsom’s California.”
Hoge articulated her belief that progressive policies disproportionately harm brown communities. She stated that whenever Democrats express concern over illegal immigration, they reveal how little they regard those they view as beneath them. She believes the Democratic agenda aims to maintain a permanent underclass, adding, “California is not that kind of place.”
Hoge also criticized Democratic leaders such as California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. She accused them of utilizing fear tactics to manipulate immigrant communities, particularly regarding the enforcement of immigration laws during Trump’s presidency. She referred to a specific event where a Mexican immigrant allegedly faked her own kidnapping by ICE. This fabricated incident gained significant media attention and was initially leveraged by Bass as an example of Trump promoting fear within these communities.
“It turns out the poor lady, for reasons that may include mental health issues or simply to gain attention, staged the kidnapping and accused ICE, though none of it actually happened,” Hoge stated. She attributed this false narrative directly to the influence of Mayor Bass, Governor Newsom, and what she termed the “drama-crats” who insist that sanctuary policies serve to protect vulnerable populations while often doing the opposite.
Reflecting on past experiences in Los Angeles, Hoge reminisced about a time when Republican Mayor Richard Riordan was in office, describing the city as vibrant and full of opportunity. She lamented the shift stating, “L.A. was booming, young people were eager to embrace the California dream. That’s no longer the case because we have a two-tiered system that hinders progress for many. The excitement and dynamism seem to have faded away.”
Efforts to reach the offices of Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass for comment did not yield a response at the time of publication. Recently, Newsom has publicly labeled Trump a “chaos agent” claiming that the former president’s immigration enforcement actions have torn apart California communities. He accused Trump of prioritizing appearances of toughness over compassion.
This ongoing debate about immigration policy and its impact on society raises crucial questions about the future of legal and social frameworks in California. As discussions continue, the impact of local and federal policies on immigrant communities remains a focal point of concern and debate.
