Rising Robbery Threats in Chicago’s River North Neighborhood Target Bar Hoppers

Police in Chicago, Illinois, are sounding the alarm for residents following a series of violent robberies aimed primarily at intoxicated individuals in the bustling River North neighborhood.

Recent reports indicate that there have been at least four separate incidents between June 16 and July 6, where groups of one to three African American males have targeted unsuspecting victims. This trend has raised significant concern among locals and law enforcement officials alike.

Method of Operation

The perpetrators have been seen approaching individuals who appear to be under the influence, forming a false sense of trust before launching their attacks. These robberies predominantly occur in the early morning hours, right after bars and restaurants close their doors for the night.

Tori Ledzema, one robbery victim, recounted her harrowing experience to local news outlet FOX 32. On her way to a Pilates class at 5:30 a.m., she found herself forcibly pushed to the ground by four masked assailants.

Fear and Violence

During the robbery, Ledzema faced a terrifying ordeal where a gun was held to her head as the men demanded access to her phone. She later discovered that they aimed to retrieve her Cash App information. “He threw me to the ground. I later found out I sprained my neck from this impact,” she lamented. “They held the gun to my head and asked me for my password.
