Sharon Stone, the iconic actress known for her roles in films like Basic Instinct, recently shed light on her personal life during an engaging appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Stone, 57, sat down with her Nobody 2 co-star Bob Odenkirk and discussed various aspects of her love life, including unexpected dating rumors.
During the episode, Cohen prompted Stone to clarify rumors regarding her past relationships, notably indicating a rumor involving Grammy-winning rapper Nelly. The audience was eager to hear the truth behind the speculation.
“I mean … this is crazy enough that I actually might believe it,” Cohen remarked. Odenkirk supported the inquiry, playfully asserting, “I’m gonna say yeah.”
When pressed further, Cohen asked, “Sharon, did you go on a date with Nelly?” Without hesitation, Stone replied, “Yes, I did.” However, she quickly clarified that their meeting did not turn into a romantic relationship; instead, it was a single date with the artist known for hits like Country Grammar.
Stone’s romantic history has included two marriages. She wed Michael Greenburg in 1984, but they divorced in 1987. Later, she married Phil Bronstein in 1998, and their union ended in 2004. Together, they adopted three sons: Roan, 25; Laird, 20; and Quinn, 19. Stone highlights motherhood as a significant aspect of her life, often placing her family at the forefront of her priorities.
In a reflective moment during the episode, Stone opened up about a challenging period in her life. She experienced a near-fatal medical scare that shifted her perspective on fame and family. In September 2001, she suffered a stroke that resulted in a cerebral hemorrhage lasting nine days. The health crisis prompted a reevaluation of her life choices and ambitions.
“I have been a person who’s been blessed to have … I had a very big career at one point,” Stone shared. “In the ‘90s, I think it would be fair to say I pretty much owned the ’90s as an actress.” However, she noted that her health issues led her to halt her career.
Stone admitted, “I stopped when I had a stroke. I had a massive, massive stroke and nearly died. So, I couldn’t work.” After her recovery, she focused on raising her children and only worked as much as necessary to support her family.
Stone’s return to work came with its own hurdles. She disclosed a shocking truth about her finances following her stroke. Despite having saved approximately $18 million, much of it vanished due to exploitation by those she trusted during her vulnerable state.
“When I got back into my bank account, it was all gone,” she revealed. Stone explained that individuals took advantage of her circumstances, believing she would not survive.
She recounted the impact of this betrayal on her life: “My refrigerator, my phone – everything was in other people’s names. I had zero money.” Despite these immense challenges, Stone chose resilience as her guiding principle.
Through her recovery and subsequent return to Hollywood, Stone adopted a fresh outlook on life. “I decided to stay present and let go,” she explained. “I decided not to hang onto being sick or to any bitterness or anger.”
For Stone, embracing positivity became essential. She stated, “If you bite into the seed of bitterness, it never leaves you. But if you hold faith, even if that faith is the size of a mustard seed, you will survive.”
This transformative journey has led her to prioritize joy and purpose in her life. Stone expressed her determination to live fully, stating, “I live for joy now. I live for purpose.” Her story serves as an inspiring testament to resilience and personal growth amid adversity.
