Prince William’s Distrust of Meghan Markle Hinders Reconciliation with Prince Harry
The ongoing feud between Prince William and Prince Harry continues to capture public attention, with Meghan Markle at the center of the controversy. According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, the unease surrounding the Duchess of Sussex is a significant obstacle to peace between the two brothers.
Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine and a seasoned royal commentator, relayed her insights to Fox News Digital. She highlighted the sentiments expressed by supporters of the British monarchy regarding Meghan. William, as the heir to the throne, is acutely aware of this lack of support.
“The flea in the ointment really is very much Meghan,” Seward stated. “She’s disliked intensely by many monarchists in this country. They perceive her as damaging to the royal family. I believe this perception extends across the Atlantic too, where many feel the same way.”
In a striking observation, Seward pointed out that Meghan’s children have yet to meet their grandfather, Thomas Markle. This reality has raised eyebrows on both sides of the Atlantic.
“Many find it exceptionally odd that her children have not met him,” she remarked. “It casts a shadow on Meghan’s character. It’s particularly unusual that Harry has never met her father, which is extraordinary.”
Seward’s views garnered support from British royal expert Hilary Fordwich, who also shared her perspective with Fox News Digital. Fordwich noted that many in the U.K. harbor an unfavorable opinion of the Duchess, suggesting that a lack of trust is a crucial factor preventing the royals from engaging in reconciliation efforts.
“Their fears are grounded in valid concerns,” Fordwich claimed. “The potential for private family discussions to become public or exploited for commercial endeavors weighs heavily on their minds. Meghan shows little sense of duty toward the British public or the institution itself.”
Recent reports have underscored the depth of the rift, with sources telling People magazine that William and Harry currently tread separate paths with no communication between them. Robert Lacey, author of ‘Battle of Brothers,’ explained that the situation remains dire and will likely persist until Harry extends an apology.
Seward suggested that William has maintained his distance in light of the couple’s recent tell-all statements about royal life. She articulated that Harry perceives his brother as having been unkind to Meghan, adding fuel to the animosity.
“Harry believes William insulted Meghan,” Seward explained. “With that level of resentment, it’s tough to navigate toward reconciliation. I honestly cannot foresee any reparation occurring at this moment.”
The turmoil intensified during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure as senior royals in 2020. They cited overwhelming media scrutiny and a lack of support from the palace as some of the key reasons for their decision. Since then, the couple has openly aired their grievances in various interviews and documentaries.
In his memoir titled ‘Spare,’ Harry revealed the depths of their sibling rivalry, sharing an alarming incident in which William called Meghan “difficult” during a heated argument in 2019. Harry recounted how William physically confronted him, resulting in physical injuries.
Despite the ongoing turmoil, neither Buckingham Palace nor Kensington Palace has officially commented on these allegations. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams voiced his perspective on the matter, reinforcing the sentiment that a profound distrust of Meghan deeply influences William’s reluctance to engage with his brother.
“William feels betrayed by Harry,” Fitzwilliams asserted. “The personal attacks in Harry’s memoir make any reconciliation challenging for the Prince of Wales.” He emphasized that while reconciliation is desirable, the lasting impacts of betrayal are not easily overcome.
Despite Harry’s desire for family reconciliation, he has acknowledged the strained relationship with his father, King Charles, who is reportedly battling an undisclosed illness. Harry expressed concern for his father’s well-being while also voicing a desire to mend familial ties.
“I would love reconciliation with my family,” Harry stated. “Ending this feud is essential, especially considering my father’s health.”
Seward suggested that King Charles’s distancing can be linked back to trust issues, meaning that it is more manageable for the family to avoid confrontation altogether. An environment that allows for avoidance becomes essential when familial ties become publicly strained.
Ian Pelham Turner, another respected royal commentator, shared a glimmer of hope regarding potential reconciliation between the families. He emphasized the need for trust on both sides to pave the way for healing.
“I firmly believe that trust is lacking among family members regarding Meghan,” he stated. “However, the question remains whether the entire royal family shares this sentiment, or if it’s primarily William.”
As speculation swirls around whether Meghan will ever return to the U.K., Seward believes the likelihood is low. With a fulfilling life in California and various projects underway, like her upcoming Netflix series ‘With Love, Meghan,’ the Duchess appears disinclined to step back into the fray.
