The mother of one of the victims in the University of Idaho murder case is seeking a court order to prevent the release of additional materials related to the investigation. This includes images taken inside her daughter’s bedroom, which authorities confirmed.

Madison Mogen, aged 21, and her close friend Kaylee Goncalves, also 21, were tragically found deceased in Mogen’s third-story bedroom located at 1122 King Road. This off-campus rental property is just a stone’s throw from the university’s grounds.

During the investigation, police discovered a tan leather Ka-Bar knife sheath near Mogen’s hip, which ultimately directed them toward the suspect, Bryan Kohberger, aged 30. Kohberger is a failed criminologist facing serious charges in this high-profile case.

New Revelations from Idaho Murder Documents

Recent legal documents have unveiled that both victims had expressed concerns over potential stalking and inappropriate behavior from Kohberger while they attended school. Such findings shed light on the ongoing investigation and the broader issues surrounding safety in the community.

In an effort to protect her family’s privacy, Mogen’s mother, Karen Laramie, has filed a petition in the Latah County Court that seeks to restrict the Moscow Police Department from disclosing any additional public records. Authorities indicated they received a notice of the petition on August 12 and subsequently announced a temporary restraining order that was issued the following Monday evening.

City administrator Bill Belknap stated that this legal action followed the recent release of redacted crime scene photos. These images were made public by the City of Moscow in response to a public records request. A temporary restraining order was subsequently established, which prevents the city from releasing any images, audio, or video that show the interior of Mogen’s bedroom until a court hearing can take place.

On August 15, 2025, Judge Marshall of Idaho’s Second District issued the order. While the released materials have not been deemed an invasion of privacy, the judge expressed concerns regarding the potential implications of unreleased body camera footage.

Currently, the temporary restraining order focuses solely on Mogen’s bedroom. Belknap clarified that the city will refrain from providing any further releases of evidence that depict the interiors of any of the victims’ bedrooms until the court thoroughly reviews the matter and reaches a decision.

Laramie’s attorney, Leander James, has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the ongoing proceedings.

A hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. PT on Thursday, during which further legal arguments will be presented and considered.
