Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani is celebrated globally as a baseball phenomenon. However, one player from the Little League World Series holds a different opinion. Monica Arcuri, an Australian athlete, expressed her thoughts on a recent encounter with Ohtani, describing him as “not really humble.”
Arcuri appeared on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” KidsCast during the New York Mets-Seattle Mariners game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, which is the home of the Little League World Series. During her interview, the Brisbane native shared her experience of attending a Los Angeles Angels game in Anaheim earlier this year.
During that game, Ohtani, still a member of the Angels then, hit a home run against Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. Arcuri recounted an interesting incident that followed.
“He hit a home run into an area where the fans couldn’t go, and then a guy got the ball and gave it to my brother,” Arcuri recalled on the broadcast. “The next day, we visited the VIP box, and I asked for his signature, but all I received was a side-eye and a not-so-nice glance from him.”
Following this encounter, Arcuri admitted that her opinion of Ohtani changed dramatically. “I’ve never liked him ever since. He’s not really humble. Not my style,” she stated emphatically.
This particular season marked Ohtani’s final one with the Angels before the Dodgers signed him to a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract, with a significant portion deferred. Ohtani’s first season with the Dodgers culminated in him receiving an NL MVP Award and adding a World Series ring to his collection after the team triumphed over the New York Yankees.

Ohtani publicly addressed the scandal, asserting that he never engaged in sports betting and labeled the claims regarding Mizuhara’s debt as fabricated.
In addition, Ohtani and his agent, Nez Balelo, found themselves in the headlines once again due to a lawsuit filed by a Hawaii real estate investor. The investor accused the pair of playing a part in the termination from a luxury housing development project valued at $240 million.
Despite Australia’s early exit from the international bracket after suffering a 12-0 defeat against Canada, Arcuri seemed to relish her time in Williamsport. Australia had opened the series with a 7-2 loss to Panama, but they managed to secure a victory against Europe-Africa with a strong 5-3 performance. This success helped avoid an early elimination.
Notably, Arcuri made history as the 24th girl to compete in the Little League Baseball World Series and became the 11th female player to achieve a hit during the tournament.
