EXCLUSIVE: FBI Director Kash Patel announced that the agency will invest substantial resources into tackling crime in Washington, D.C., stating the goal is to ensure safety for every community.
In a post shared on X, Patel highlighted that since President Donald Trump authorized the federalization of the Metropolitan Police Department, law enforcement has made 550 arrests in Washington, D.C. Out of these arrests, 66 occurred on a single day—Tuesday.
On that night alone, the FBI participated in 41 arrests, leading to the seizure of eight illegal drugs and the recovery of six firearms.
Latest Law Enforcement Efforts Result in Significant Arrests
Patel emphasized the collaboration between the FBI and local law enforcement, stating:
“The men and women of the FBI, alongside our local law enforcement partners, have successfully removed hundreds of dangerous criminals from the streets of Washington, D.C. This demonstrates the positive outcomes when law enforcement officials are empowered to perform their duties effectively. Under President Trump’s leadership, we are allocating historic resources to combat crime because the situation in our nation’s capital is unacceptable. We will persist until every community achieves safety.”
A spokesperson from the White House confirmed that law enforcement apprehended 91 individuals on Tuesday night, including 25 who were identified as illegal immigrants. These individuals had extensive criminal backgrounds, including charges of burglary, threats of violence, and property destruction.

“At the direction of President Donald Trump, our nation’s capital is becoming a safer place—and we are just beginning. Last night, 52 arrests were made, including a notable MS-13 gang member, and we seized nine firearms. Since our mission commenced, we have achieved a total of 465 arrests, confiscated 68 guns, and pressed charges for offenses including homicide, narcotics, and firearms violations. Almost half of these arrests have occurred in areas of D.C. known for high crime rates. Residents and visitors alike are recognizing the extraordinary efforts undertaken by our D.C. and Federal law enforcement partners.”

The Department of Justice revealed it is investigating potential manipulation of crime data by police in Washington, D.C. In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump criticized the city for allegedly providing inaccurate crime statistics, suggesting this was an effort to mislead the public regarding safety.
On Wednesday, the FBI announced it plans to release crime data on a monthly basis, enhancing transparency and accountability.
