Tragic Shooting at Minneapolis Catholic School Sparks Urgent Police Response

A shooting incident occurred on Wednesday at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, as confirmed by Governor Tim Walz.

In a post on X, Walz expressed his concern, stating that he has been briefed on the shooting and is praying for the students and teachers whose first week of school has been disrupted by this disturbing act of violence.

The Minneapolis Police Department issued a statement confirming that there is “no active threat to the community at this time,” adding that the shooter has been contained. Reports from various sources have indicated that the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, is deceased.

City officials urged residents to avoid the area to facilitate emergency personnel’s work in assisting the victims.

Video footage captured at the scene depicted anxious parents escorting their children away from the school premises. Local residents reported hearing what they initially thought were construction noises but later realized were gunshots.

According to a federal source speaking to Fox News, numerous individuals sustained injuries in this tragic shooting. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem commented that her department is currently monitoring the distressing events at Annunciation Catholic School.

Noem stated that her team is in ongoing communication with interagency partners and assured the public that more information will be provided as it becomes available. She offered her thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families.

Local Leaders React to the Violence

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also addressed the situation, declaring, “I’m monitoring reports of horrific violence in South Minneapolis.” He confirmed that he is in contact with Chief O’Hara and that the emergency response team has been activated. Frey promised to share further information as it comes to light and requested the community give law enforcement the space needed to manage the crisis effectively.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) confirmed that its agents are responding to reports of an active shooter situation at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis, further highlighting the seriousness of the incident.

President Donald Trump stated that he has been “fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.” He noted that the FBI quickly responded and is currently on the scene. Trump added that the White House will consistently monitor the situation and encouraged the public to join him in praying for those affected.

Annunciation Catholic School educates students from kindergarten through eighth grade and had only commenced the academic year on Monday.
