Chicago Pastor Challenges Political Leaders Amid Rising Crime Crisis
A pastor in Chicago is strongly contesting assertions that the city’s escalating crime crisis is under control. He is calling on President Donald Trump to intervene, fearing that without action, violence will continue to rise.
Pastor Corey Brooks leads Project H.O.O.D., an organization dedicated to violence prevention on the South Side of Chicago. On Wednesday, he highlighted alarming statistics, revealing that the community has endured 254 deaths in just 233 days, with a staggering 80% being young Black boys.
Current data from the city’s crime dashboard indicates that there have been a total of 266 homicides this year, averaging more than one killing every day.
“For anyone in our community to claim that conditions are improving and that people are safe is simply an outright lie,” Brooks expressed during an interview on Fox & Friends.
Brooks is urging Trump to deploy the National Guard to Chicago. He pointed to the recent federal crime crackdown in Washington, D.C., where the National Guard’s deployment led to a notable 12-day period without homicides, a streak that was broken earlier this week.
Political Leaders Accused of Inaction
The pastor claims that political agendas are hindering similar actions in Chicago. He believes local leaders prioritize their political aspirations over the safety of the community.
“One of the highest priorities of government is ensuring the safety of American citizens. That should be the top priority for both the governor and the mayor, yet it is not,” he stated.
Both Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, who are affiliated with the Democratic Party, have rejected Trump’s proposal for federal intervention.
“We are being targeted based on who and what we represent,” Johnson remarked during a press conference on Monday.
Pritzker issued a strong warning to Trump, stating, “Mr. President, do not come to Chicago.”
Trump Expresses Willingness to Help
Despite local resistance, Trump has indicated his readiness to take action. On Tuesday, he stated, “I’m willing to go to Chicago,” while criticizing local leaders for failing to acknowledge the gravity of the situation. “This is a significant problem, yet our governor refuses to see it,” he added.
Brooks emphasizes that the violence is not just a statistic; it hits close to home. “There’s no denying that crime remains a severe issue in Chicago,” he said. “We are still witnessing mothers mourning young boys, with their sons passing away too soon. This is a critical concern. For anyone to suggest we are experiencing improvements is absolutely incorrect.”
Temporary Solutions Needed
While Brooks acknowledges that deploying the National Guard would only offer a short-term solution, he believes it could buy time to establish a more lasting strategy. He stated, “I recognize that the National Guard is a temporary solution, but it would ease the situation.” He also emphasized the role of organizations like Project H.O.O.D. in addressing the underlying issues of violence.
“It is our duty to provide solutions and bring the necessary support,” Brooks insisted. The pastor stressed the importance of openly discussing the issues plaguing the city.

“We must raise our voices and speak out. We need to inform the world that this is a pressing issue in Chicago,” Brooks declared. He stressed that neither the mayor nor the governor can dictate the narrative of this crisis.
Brooks is determined to act, stating, “Silence is no longer an option.” His call for proactive measures is a testament to his commitment to improving community safety and well-being.
