A federal court issued a temporary restraining order over the weekend, preventing the Trump administration from transferring three Venezuelan immigrants currently detained in New Mexico to Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. This legal move comes amid rising concerns regarding the administration’s recent initiatives aimed at deporting illegal immigrants from the United States.
Attorneys representing the three detainees filed a request in a U.S. District Court in New Mexico arguing that their clients are targeted for Guantánamo detention based solely on their nationality and tenuous connections to alleged criminal activities. The legal filing highlighted that these individuals fit a specific profile, being Venezuelan men apprehended in the El Paso area facing dubious charges linked to the Tren de Aragua gang.

Judge Kenneth J. Gonzales granted the temporary restraining order, according to attorney Jessica Vosburgh, who is representing the Venezuelan immigrants.
