St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital projects that approximately 400,000 children globally will be diagnosed with cancer this year. In the United States, advancements in research and treatments have significantly boosted survival rates. Today, around 80% of pediatric patients survive five years or more after receiving treatment. Yet, there remains considerable work to enhance these statistics and to discover cures for rarer forms of cancer.
Fernando Goldsztein, a devoted father, expresses concern, stating that children suffering from brain tumors have often been overlooked. The treatments available today are dated, originating from as far back as the 1980s.
Fernando’s son, Frederico, received a diagnosis of a brain tumor at the tender age of nine. Medulloblastoma is recognized as the most common brain tumor in children, although its incidence is relatively rare. Specifically, only five out of one million children are diagnosed with this grim disease each year, presenting a significant challenge in securing research funding.
