The directive from a Fulton County Superior Court judge is a result of ongoing efforts by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch. The organization has sought to obtain communications from Willis’ office, specifically regarding interactions with the January 6 select committee and the team of former special counsel Jack Smith.
This latest order represents a significant setback for Willis, who had previously faced scrutiny after the court ruled in January that she must pay approximately $22,000 in legal fees to Judicial Watch. The court found that she failed to adequately respond to the watchdog’s original open records requests.

Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, expressed his concerns regarding potential misconduct associated with Willis’ prosecution of Trump. He voiced suspicion that the district attorney improperly coordinated with federal authorities to bring charges against the former president in relation to the 2020 election.
“Our lawsuit focuses on any collusion or collaboration with Congress or the Justice Department, including Jack Smith’s team. We have not yet seen the documents, but their existence implies communication took place,” Fitton stated.
When asked about why such interactions would raise ethical questions, Fitton argued that such communications indicated a lack of independence in Willis’ work. He characterized the indictment against Trump and 18 others as a politically motivated maneuver rather than a legitimate legal process.
Fitton referenced prominent Democratic figures in relation to the investigation, suggesting that their involvement compromised its credibility. “If Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff are at the helm, it’s hard to argue the investigation is credible,” he stated, referencing their roles in the Democrat-led January 6 committee.
