Family matriarch Donna Adelson received a firm reprimand from a judge on Thursday as she reacted emotionally in the courtroom following her conviction for orchestrating a murder-for-hire scheme aimed at her former son-in-law. The dramatic events unfolded as a Florida jury found her guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in the 2014 killing of Daniel Markel, a respected law professor at Florida State University.
The court heard that Markel was shot dead in his driveway in Tallahassee, a crime prosecutors alleged was part of a cold-blooded family plot. The motive behind this plan was to free Wendi Adelson, Donna’s daughter, from a contentious custody battle stemming from her difficult divorce.

Garcia was sentenced to life imprisonment, while Rivera is currently serving a 19-year sentence after providing testimony to the state.
Despite the serious charges, Wendi Adelson has consistently denied any involvement in her former husband’s murder and has not faced charges in connection with the case.
