Senator Daines Draws Parallels Between Israel’s Hamas Offensive and US Actions Against Bin Laden

Senator Daines Visits Israel Amid Ongoing Conflict with Hamas

FIRST ON FOX: Senator Steve Daines, representing Montana, is on a trip to Israel following the Jewish state’s recent military action in Qatar. He argues that this strike marks a crucial step in Israel’s resolute intention to eliminate Hamas.

The Israel Defense Forces announced the operation, targeting senior Hamas leadership. Surprisingly, this attack occurred over 1,300 miles away in Doha, Qatar.

Qatar’s Role in Ceasefire Negotiations

The Qatari government has been instrumental in facilitating negotiations for a ceasefire and the return of hostages amid the ongoing turmoil between Israel and Hamas. This conflict erupted after Hamas carried out a brutal assault on October 7, 2023.

Israel’s operations targeted key members of Hamas’ political bureau, who were contemplating the latest ceasefire proposal presented by the United States.

International Reactions to Israel’s Actions

The strike has drawn condemnation from Qatari officials, with the White House displaying unusual criticism of Israel’s actions in this instance.

Sitting on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Daines compared Hamas to a cancer that must be eradicated. To illustrate the gravity of the situation, he posed a hypothetical scenario—if 1,200 innocent Americans were killed by terrorists just outside Washington, D.C., he suggested the United States would act decisively to eliminate such a threat.

Daines emphasized that Israel has shown a willingness to act decisively, regardless of international borders, likening their approach to the U.S. operations against Usama bin Laden in Pakistan. He stated, “We didn’t ask Pakistan for permission.”

Trump’s Reaction to the Situation

After the strike, former President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure regarding the developments. He stated, “I was very unhappy about it. We need to get the hostages back, but I was unhappy about how the situation unfolded.”

Trump’s remarks highlight the complexities surrounding military action in international relations, especially when hostages are involved.

Qatar’s Strong Condemnation

The Qatari Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli military strike, characterizing it as a criminal attack. The ministry asserted that the operation represented a blatant violation of international laws and posed a serious threat to the safety and security of both Qataris and residents in the nation.

Daines’ Visit Initially Focused on Archaeology

Daines’ journey to Israel was initially planned to celebrate the excavation of an ancient pathway, known as the Pilgrimage Road, believed to have been walked by Jesus. This site connects the Pool of Siloam to the Temple Mount.

Earlier this year, Daines visited Israel to witness the progress of ongoing archaeological projects before the recent escalation of violence led by Hamas.

Changing Dynamics of Diplomatic Meetings

As Daines prepares for his visit, which will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, the tone of the trip is expected to shift dramatically.

Recently, Daines spoke with the Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. and expressed hope for a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He noted that an assessment of the strike’s implications, which targeted a residential complex in Doha, remains pending.

Concerns About Ceasefire Negotiations

When discussing the potential impact of the strike on ceasefire negotiations, Daines acknowledged Qatar’s significant role and pointed out that the U.S. maintains its largest military base in the Middle East in that country. However, he also recognized that Hamas is actively attempting to evade capture by Israeli forces.

He stated, “Sometimes you can run, but you can’t hide. Israel had to make a decision. Just as they targeted military leadership in Iran, they realized they had to dismantle Hamas’ command and control structure.”

Daines concluded, stating that Israel remains singularly focused on its security and will take necessary measures to uphold it.

In the aftermath of these developments, Fox News Digital reached out to the State Department for comments but received no immediate response.
