Pastor Jack Hibbs Reflects on Charlie Kirk’s Legacy After Tragic Assassination

Pastor Jack Hibbs, a long-time friend of Charlie Kirk, expressed his profound disbelief upon hearing of the conservative figure’s assassination. He spoke with Fox News Digital just hours after their final conversation.

“My initial thoughts, like everyone else, instinctively turned to the state of our country,” Hibbs remarked. He continued, saying, “My second thought quickly emerged, focusing on Charlie’s intellect and, notably, his unwavering faith in Jesus.”

At just 31 years old, Kirk was fatally shot on Wednesday during the launch of his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University. He leaves behind his wife, Erika, along with two very young children aged one and three.

A Mentor and Friend

Hibbs, who leads Calvary Chapel Chino Hills located in Southern California, described Kirk as having an immense passion for the Bible. The two friends dedicated years to exploring the Scriptures together.

Following Kirk’s death, Hibbs proclaimed him an “American martyr,” a title he believes will inspire an upcoming generation of Christians and conservatives who will strive to follow in Kirk’s impactful footsteps.

Collaborative Outreach

Over the past five years, Hibbs and Kirk had collaborated on various podcasts and cultural events. Kirk frequently spoke at Hibbs’ church, which has roots in the Jesus People movement. Their discussions covered critical issues including gender identity, abortion, school choice, and biblical prophecy.

Hours before the inaugural event of the American Comeback Tour, Hibbs reached out to Kirk, asking for entry to the event for his brother.

“Charlie was exceptionally kind and generous to offer a stranger a front-row seat,” Hibbs recounted. “This was Charlie’s way of showing love; he deeply cared for others.”

Shortly before the event began, Hibbs’ brother shared photos of himself with Kirk, capturing a heartwarming moment before tragedy struck. Moments later, Hibbs received a frantic call from his brother amid the chaos of the shooting, filled with the sounds of terror and confusion.

Faith Amid Tragedy

In the midst of sadness, Hibbs urged Kirk’s supporters to view this tragedy as merely a chapter in Kirk’s continuing legacy rather than an ending. He emphasized Kirk’s profound faith, which he believes will resonate widely.

“This incident has united an entire generation, not only those who admired Charlie but even those who disagreed with him,” Hibbs stated. “They witnessed a young man sacrifice his life for his beliefs. I believe this tragedy will ultimately backfire on those who aimed to silence him.”

Honoring Kirk’s Contributions

Kirk’s last public appearance at Hibbs’ church occurred in March during an event titled “A Christian or Pagan Nation.” This event highlighted Kirk’s ability to engage with pressing cultural issues.

“Many people only recognize Charlie Kirk as the powerful figure on stage, immaculately prepared for university debates or media appearances. However, he was also a tender-hearted individual with a deep sense of empathy,” Hibbs reflected.

A Rising Influence

Kirk’s influence surged during the 2016 election cycle, positioning him as a key voice in the MAGA movement. He cultivated connections with the Trump family and founded Turning Point USA, an organization dedicated to empowering young conservatives.

Through an array of large-scale events, Kirk built bridges between young activists and lawmakers, fostering a direct relationship between the political establishment and a new generation of leaders. His outreach extended to specialized events such as the Black Leadership Summit, where young activists engaged directly with President Trump during his first term.

A Call to Remember

Hibbs concluded his thoughts with a call not only to remember Charlie Kirk as a martyr but also to reflect on his vision and dedication to his beliefs. It is a critical moment for supporters to rally together, honoring both the spirit and the mission Kirk passionately advocated throughout his life.

This situation serves as a wake-up call to those committed to fostering dialogue among diverse viewpoints. As Hibbs noted, Kirk’s life should inspire a renewed dedication to engage meaningfully in cultural conversations.
