FIRST ON FOX: Representative Chip Roy, a Republican from Texas, has called on House leaders to create a new temporary committee to investigate what he describes as persistent attacks on American society, the erosion of the rule of law, and acts of violence against innocent individuals, both notable and unknown.
In a letter addressed to House GOP leaders on Thursday, Roy’s request comes just one day after the tragic assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He accuses left-wing organizations of contributing to a dangerous political climate that endangers citizens.
“I respectfully request that the House of Representatives establish a select committee to explore the money, influence, and power driving the radical left’s attack on America and the rule of law,” Roy expressed in his letter. “The evidence is clear: We are witnessing a deliberate disintegration of law and order, propelled not by mere coincidence, but by an anti-American ideology.”
Roy highlighted several violent incidents, including assassination attempts against prominent figures such as President Donald Trump and the 2017 shooting at a congressional baseball practice. He emphasized that these threats extend beyond politicians, impacting ordinary citizens as well.
“Targets have been placed on organizations like the Family Research Council and Charlie Kirk by the Southern Poverty Law Center,” he noted, referencing the tragic events following Kirk’s recent designation on the SPLC’s controversial ‘Hate Map’ just three months prior to his death.
“We have witnessed dangerous groups like Antifa coordinating, funding, and executing terror campaigns against law enforcement and in some cases wreaking havoc in American cities.”
Roy also pointed to influential figures and organizations, such as George Soros and the Wren Collective. He accused them of financing and placing progressive district attorneys in key positions, leading to leniency towards individuals who commit violent crimes.
Additionally, he criticized leftist influencers for exacerbating the ongoing crisis at the U.S. border under the Biden administration, asserting that such conditions must be addressed urgently.
“Enough is enough. We need to trace the financial sources to identify those driving these coordinated anti-American operations and take decisive legal actions to halt their activities,” he stated emphatically.
Roy expressed his concern regarding the growing divide in American society, arguing that the existence of a financially backed, hostile faction challenging the very principles of faith, constitutional fidelity, and respect for liberty threatens the nation’s foundation.
Kirk, a 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was killed during a speaking event at a college campus in Utah. Utah Governor Spencer Cox has since labeled this act a politically motivated assassination.
This event has sparked an intense wave of grief and outrage from Kirk’s supporters, along with bipartisan calls for an end to political violence that affects individuals across the spectrum.
In addition to the incidents highlighted by Roy, a tragic event in Minnesota saw a Democratic lawmaker and her husband killed in their home by a masked assailant posing as a police officer.
Earlier that same day, a bomb threat prompted law enforcement to rush to the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, although the threat was quickly deemed non-credible.
Kirk’s assassination stands as the latest in an unsettling pattern of escalating violence that has increasingly made elected officials and public figures uneasy about their safety.
Many Republicans, including Roy, have directed blame toward Democrats for fostering animosity toward the right and inciting aggression.
Speaking on the steps of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday evening, Roy delivered a heartfelt tribute to Kirk: “We should be able to engage in passionate discussions without fear of such a tragic outcome.” His emotional remarks highlighted a deep concern for the current state of political discourse.
“Our Founding Fathers often clashed with one another. We either unite under a greater cause or we do not,” he stated. “I choose to stand for a purpose that transcends individual interests. We are here to uphold something greater than ourselves.”
Fox News Digital attempted to reach the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Wren Collective, and Soros through the Open Society Foundations for comments but did not receive a response prior to publication.
The recent tragic events underscore a troubling reality in contemporary American politics—growing violence and polarization threaten not just political figures, but the safety and security of citizens across the country. As calls for investigation mount, it remains crucial that leaders and citizens alike strive for a well-informed, respectful dialogue to bridge the ideological divides.
