In the wake of the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, host of NFL RedZone Scott Hanson has called for a return to reasonable discourse in America. With the national conversation increasingly polarized, Hanson expressed the necessity of respectful dialogue among individuals with differing beliefs.
At 54 years old, Hanson embarks on his 17th season as the face of NFL RedZone. Known for openly sharing his Christian faith, he emphasized in a recent interview that his religion is a cornerstone of his life. He articulated that one of the greatest advantages of living in the United States is its freedoms, particularly the freedom of religion and speech.
Hanson remarked, “I love our country, and I think one of the greatest things about our country are the freedoms that we enjoy. These freedoms were fought for and paid for by countless individuals, many of whom we have never met. Those freedoms include freedom of religion and freedom of speech.”
In his conversation with Fox News Digital, Hanson expressed gratitude for the ability to voice opinions and beliefs. He stated, “I’m thankful that in a world filled with division and conflict, particularly in America, we can freely disagree on various issues and showcase our beliefs in settings that allow for such expression.”
Hanson emphasized the importance of respecting others’ right to express contrasting opinions. He articulated, “We might not agree on everything, but I at least respect your right to express yourself. For me, being a Christian is the foundation of my life. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, and I am proud of that belief.”
Understanding the challenges of today’s societal landscape, he clarified, “I never intend to impose my beliefs on anyone else. However, I firmly know who I am and where my identity lies. If someone is oppositely inclined, or believes it is foolish to have faith, I hope we can engage in a reasonable conversation about that. This society needs it more than anything else.”
When questioned about prioritizing prayer during tumultuous times, Hanson shared his reliance on faith. He stated, “You asked how I keep prayer at the forefront during trying moments. Where else could I go to find clarity amid the chaos we continually witness in our society? I turn to the one I firmly believe created everything and oversees our reality, regardless of whether it feels that way to our human perspective.”
Hanson added, “When I feel exalted, confused, or even angry, I pray. My faith teaches me to love my adversaries and to pray for those holding different ideologies, religions, or political opinions. This necessity for understanding and love for each other has never felt more critical than it does now.”
Reflecting on the emotional toll of recent events, he admitted, “I try to keep my emotions in check. However, after watching the expansive coverage the other day, I found myself wondering, where do we go from here?”
In tense moments, Hanson leans into prayer. He explained, “For me, the starting and finishing point is prayer. I say, ‘Lord, you’re in control of all this. I’m not. Please guide us through this situation and help me, help us.’”
Additionally, Hanson is collaborating with Lowe’s for their latest initiative titled Earn Your Sunday. This campaign encourages NFL fans to dedicate their weekends to get household projects completed during the week. This preparation allows for guilt-free enjoyment of football on Sundays.
Hanson described the campaign, stating, “Lowe’s has introduced a fantastic concept this year through Earn Your Sunday. Everyone has projects they need to tackle around the house, right? Lowe’s encourages us to complete them during the week, specifically on Friday or Saturday, so we can thoroughly enjoy our Sundays watching games with friends and family.”
He further remarked, “This campaign will resonate with fans because nobody wants to spend Sunday afternoon on the couch feeling guilty about unfinished tasks. Instead, people can visit Lowe’s, gather necessary materials, complete projects, and enjoy the satisfaction of having earned their Sunday.”
Numerous NFL personalities, including Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, are also backing Lowe’s initiative.
Hanson concluded by expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming season, noting, “It’s going to be an exciting time for all participants.”
