Republican strategist Brad Todd has publicly criticized CNN for what he perceives as a double standard in the network’s coverage of President Joe Biden’s executive actions compared to former President Donald Trump. During a recent panel discussion, Todd highlighted the network’s failure to scrutinize Biden’s potential disregard for court orders.

Defiance of Court Orders?

In his remarks, Todd referenced an incident from a few years ago when Biden’s plan for student loan forgiveness was rejected by the Supreme Court. He recalled Biden stating, “I will stop at nothing to do this.” Following the defeat, Biden allegedly moved forward with forgiving $48 billion in student loans, which Todd argues reflects defiance of the court’s ruling.

Trump’s Legal Challenges

Biden’s actions come amidst ongoing scrutiny of Trump’s presidency, which saw significant legal challenges to several executive orders. Among these were a freeze on federal funding and restrictions related to the Department of Government Efficiency. During the panel, CNN host Jim Sciutto questioned whether Trump’s administration engaged in any behavior that might set the stage for future defiance of judicial rulings.

Different Standards for Presidents?

Todd asserted that CNN did not apply similar skepticism towards Biden. He pointed out that when Biden lost his legal battle over student loans, the network did not speculate on whether Biden was circumventing the court. This, he argues, illustrates a bias in how CNN covers Republican and Democratic presidents.

As the discussion progressed, CNN legal analyst Elliot Williams responded to Todd’s accusations by framing the idea of Biden’s defiance as merely a
