Former Cincinnati Reds player Zack Cozart expressed his support for Disney’s recent decision to pull comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s show off the air. This action follows Kimmel’s contentious remarks concerning the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Disney confirmed to Fox News Digital that ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is now suspended indefinitely following the fallout from Kimmel’s comments.
On social media platform X, Cozart wrote, “The tide is turning. Keep the pedal to the metal.” His statement reflects a growing sentiment among some public figures regarding accountability for inflammatory rhetoric.
Kimmel’s comments, made on Monday, criticized conservatives for attempting to assert a leftist ideology in the context of the murder of Kirk, allegedly at the hands of Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old suspect. Kimmel remarked, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” This commentary sparked immediate backlash.
Although Kimmel’s statements aimed to accuse the right of exploiting the situation for political gain, many responses highlighted the indictment of Robinson, which explicitly mentioned his leftist ties. Furthermore, it was revealed that Robinson was involved in a romantic relationship with a partner who was biologically male and transitioning to female.
In light of Kimmel’s remarks, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr sharply criticized his conduct. Carr labeled the comments as some of the “sickest conduct” he had witnessed and suggested that the FCC had several avenues to explore concerning the issue.
During his appearance on “The Benny Show,” Carr stated, “In some quarters, there’s a very concerted effort to try to lie to the American people about the nature of one of the most significant newsworthy public interest acts that we’ve seen in a long time.” He pointedly noted concerns about Kimmel’s framing of the murder narrative.
Prior to Disney’s announcement, Nexstar Media Group, which operates numerous television stations, declared that it would preempt Kimmel’s show on its ABC affiliates starting Wednesday night. This programming change emphasizes the industry’s increasing discomfort with Kimmel’s narrative concerning the tragedy.
Kirk was tragically shot and killed while participating in an event at Utah Valley University last week. His untimely death has prompted numerous vigils across the country as thousands mourn his passing.
The conservative influencer’s funeral is scheduled for September 21 in Glendale, Arizona, where supporters are expected to gather to honor his memory and pay their respects.
This incident underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding political discourse in the media landscape. With public figures like Cozart voicing their opinions on the matter, it remains to be seen how this controversy will influence future media practices and public discourse.
