Riley Gaines Voices Concerns Over Campus Safety for Conservatives Following Violent Incident

Amid rising tensions on college campuses, conservative activist Riley Gaines opens up about her experiences with left-wing campus violence. Her remarks come in light of the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a friend and mentor, which has heightened fears for the safety of conservatives on university grounds.

Attacked at a University Event

During a Turning Point USA event at San Francisco State University in 2023, Gaines faced a violent confrontation from radical student activists. She described how her event was disrupted by a mob of aggressive protesters, who expressed their dissent with chanting and hostility that escalated quickly.

Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer known for her outspoken views on competing against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, revealed that she was forced to seek refuge inside a classroom. The university police, who were present, failed to manage the situation, leaving her feeling disoriented and unsafe.

“I felt confused and terrified, surrounded by people yelling and fists flying in my face,” said Gaines, who now hosts her own show on OutKick. Her ordeal lasted several hours as she waited for the situation to calm down.

A Hostile Environment

The conservative activist recounted her harrowing experience to Fox News Digital. She mentioned that a plainclothes police officer assisted her escape through a back exit to a hallway teeming with protesters. Although she ultimately found shelter in a classroom, the danger outside persisted.

“Protesters were shouting threats, even demanding money if I wanted to see my family again,” Gaines recalled. The campus police were reportedly hesitant to intervene aggressively, fearing potential backlash from the transgender community.

“I was afraid for my life. I begged the officer to help me get home, to which he replied, ‘that’s a bit selfish, don’t you think? We want to go home too,’” Gaines added, highlighting her frustration with the police response.

Support from Law Enforcement

Eventually, law enforcement from the San Francisco Police Department arrived, allowing her to leave safely. Despite her support for law enforcement, Gaines voiced disappointment in how campus security handled the incident.

Upon her return to the university later in the year with Charlie Kirk for the American Comeback Tour, Gaines noted that the same campus officers who had previously failed to protect her were now tasked with ensuring her safety again.

The Need for Accountability

Reflecting on the administration’s response to the events, Gaines lamented the lack of accountability among the students and university staff who allowed the hostile environment to thrive. “Nothing was done to address the behavior of the students or the failure of campus police to protect us,” she expressed, underscoring the ongoing issue of campus safety for conservative speakers.

Growing Concerns for Conservative Speakers

The scrutiny surrounding campus security for conservative speakers has intensified, especially following Charlie Kirk’s murder. The Turning Point USA co-founder was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University, raising alarms about the safety of conservative voices on campus.

In the wake of this incident, concerns emerge that universities may opt to disinvite conservative speakers, fearing potential violence. Gaines revealed that she has a busy schedule of ten college appearances for the fall, despite fearing for her safety. She expressed apprehension about continuing to engage with campuses as she prepares to welcome her new baby.

Personal Reflections on Loss

As she processes Kirk’s death, Gaines conveyed a deep sense of grief for her mentor and confidant. Kirk played a pivotal role in her career, giving her the opportunity to thrive as a speaker and guiding her with advice.

“Charlie had a unique talent for making people feel seen and valued, regardless of their background,” she reminisced. “His legacy will endure, but it’s going to require bravery from more people to carry his message forward.”

Embracing Courage in Uncertain Times

In the current political climate, where threats of violence and intimidation appear all too common, figures like Gaines advocate for the necessity of speaking out. The rising trend of hostility against conservative thoughts on college campuses is alarming and calls for a courageous response.

Gaines’s commitment to standing up for her beliefs, especially while anticipating the arrival of her daughter, reflects the struggles many face in a polarized society. Her journey highlights the importance of fostering safe spaces for dialogue and expression across campuses while ensuring that the voices of all individuals, regardless of their political leanings, are heard and respected.
