NFL veteran Jadeveon Clowney found himself in legal trouble on September 12 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. This incident occurred merely two days prior to his signing with the Dallas Cowboys.
According to reports from WSOC-TV 9, Clowney faces misdemeanor charges of trespassing and failure to identify himself. He allegedly parked in a lot that was designated as closed for parking after being informed that it was not allowed.
Despite the legal troubles, the three-time Pro Bowl defensive end signed a contract with the Cowboys just 48 hours following the incident. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones officially announced the signing after the team’s exhilarating overtime win against the New York Giants in Week 2 of the current NFL season.
Prior to joining the Cowboys, Clowney had a noteworthy stint with the Carolina Panthers. During the previous NFL season, he played in 14 games, starting every one of them. His performance included 5.5 sacks, 46 tackles, and nine tackles for loss.
The Panthers had signed Clowney on a two-year, $20 million deal back in March 2024. However, the team released him in May 2025 after just one season with the franchise.
As the number one overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Clowney has built a reputation as a formidable defensive player. He is now gearing up for his 12th NFL season, making his tenure with the Cowboys the seventh team he has represented throughout his career.
Following his initial draft by the Houston Texans, Clowney played five seasons with the team. His career then included stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, and lastly, the Carolina Panthers.
Over 140 career games, Clowney has amassed impressive statistics, including 409 total tackles, 58 sacks, one interception, and nine fumble recoveries, with three of those for touchdowns. Additionally, he has recorded 108 tackles for loss.
The Dallas Cowboys, currently holding a record of 1-1, are set to face the Chicago Bears, who sit at 0-2. This matchup is scheduled for 4:25 PM ET on Sunday.
Jadeveon Clowney’s recent arrest might raise questions about his focus and commitment to the game as he joins the Dallas Cowboys. However, his proven track record suggests he remains a critical asset on the defensive side of the ball. Fans will be eager to see how he contributes in the upcoming weeks and whether this incident will have any effect on his performance.
As the NFL season continues to unfold, eyes will remain on Clowney and the Cowboys, particularly as the defensive front looks to tighten and improve in the wake of recent events.
