Senator Chris Van Hollen from Maryland expressed his outrage over the memo issued by the Office of Management and Budget. This document was shared with federal agencies earlier this week and proposed extensive employee reductions beyond the usual furloughs.

The memo states, ‘RIF notices will be in addition to any furlough notices due to budget shortfalls,’ and reassures that these notifications would occur regardless of the employee’s status during the appropriation lapse.
As lawmakers anticipate their return to Washington on Monday, they will face a deadline just one day away to fund the government.
