On August 6, 2023, a somber reflection marked the heartache faced by numerous American families. The tragic loss of loved ones like my daughter Rachel Morin and others, including Kayla Hamilton, Laken Riley, and Jocelyn Nungaray, stemmed from the repercussions of a misguided open borders agenda.
For many families, the pain endured is unforgettable and profound. However, a turning point came on January 29, 2025, when President Donald Trump announced measures aimed at preventing such tragedies from recurring in American households.
With an invitation in hand, I joined fellow Angel Moms—Tammy Nobels, Allyson Phillips, and Alexis Nungaray—at the White House. We were there to witness President Trump sign the Laken Riley Act into law, a moment both significant and emotional for all involved.
As I entered the historic building, the weight of shared grief hung heavy in the air. It was a bond that only those who have faced similar tragedies could truly fathom.
Our families occupied the front row, awaiting the president’s arrival. Senators, congressmen, and cabinet members entered, greeting each other with hushed voices. Yet, beneath their discussions lay the unmistakable sorrow that connected us, the grieving mothers.
Watching lawmakers who were eager to right the wrongs faced by our nation contrasted sharply with our quiet grief. It was a poignant juxtaposition of tragedy intertwined with an intense desire to instigate change.
As ceremonial music filled the room, the large doors swung open, revealing an honor guard standing in formation for the arrival of the United States president. The atmosphere turned solemn as he approached the podium, fully aware of the emotions harbored within the room.
During his remarks, President Trump recognized the magnitude of the occasion alongside the immense grief carried by the mothers present. He invited Allyson, among others, from Laken Riley’s family to join him on stage for the signing of the immigration legislation that bears her daughter’s name.
This legislation signifies a commitment to enhancing community safety in America, aiming to keep dangerous individuals out of our borders. It represents an effort to shield future families from the heart-wrenching losses we’ve faced.
This occasion encapsulated both profound sadness and a sense of victory. President Trump listened to the cries of Angel Moms across the nation, stepping forward as our ally in a fight for justice. His actions restore hope and safety to American families.
His leadership focuses on stopping criminal elements from across the globe that threaten our communities. Furthermore, he provides unwavering support to the brave individuals who dedicate their lives to safeguarding our nation.
In the face of adversity, President Trump has emerged as a beacon of hope, responding to the pleas for help. Through policy initiatives, he leads a charge aimed at transforming the narrative surrounding immigration and safety.
Our heartfelt thanks resonate not just for the actions taken, but for listening to us in our most desperate moments. The profound promise that “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice” continues to inspire us all.
Through his direction and understanding, he aligns with those who have been touched by tragedy, uniting our common goals for a safer future.
This moment at the White House was an affirmation of our collective effort to advocate for families like ours, ensuring that no more mothers experience the agony of loss that we have. Together, we are speaking out for the change we desperately need and deserve.
