A former college athlete and now a prominent conservative blogger has issued a stark warning about rising political violence in the United States. Jeffery Mead, known for his insightful social and political commentary, claims the left has fostered a climate that enables such violence.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Mead articulated his concerns, stating, “The left has created a permission structure for violence.” He emphasized that this culture spans all levels of the left, including elected officials.
Mead, who graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2017, made a name for himself as a wide receiver on the college football team. He currently operates his media venture, Mead Digital Media, and manages a Substack platform where he tackles topics related to politics, culture, and media strategy in a candid manner.
Amassing nearly 500,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and over 1.1 million on TikTok, Mead often shares his reactions to current events and political developments, engaging a large audience eager for his insights.
Mead contends that the rhetoric from left-leaning politicians frequently conflicts with their actions. He stated, “You’ll see the politicians come out, and they’ll tell you, ‘We condemn political violence, we condemn any type of violence. All that’s bad.’ But what they don’t do is acknowledge what led to that violence, which is their rhetoric.” He believes that extreme language from politicians has a direct effect on public sentiment, often inciting radical actions.
Referencing the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, the co-founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, Mead pointed to this troubling trend. Kirk was tragically shot and killed on September 10 while participating in his American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University.
Despite his youth, Kirk had rapidly established himself as a significant figure in the conservative movement. He has been influential in energizing support for Donald Trump’s electoral campaign in 2024, founding Turning Point USA at the age of 18 with encouragement from notable Tea Party activists.
In the wake of Kirk’s assassination, Mead took to social media to denounce the act, attributing the blame to the incendiary rhetoric often employed by Democrats. His statements included, “Charlie Kirk’s assassination is not random. History shows the pattern: 1. Label your opponents as ‘evil’ such as ‘Nazis’ or ‘Fascists’. 2. This implies normal rules don’t apply to them. 3. Excuse or celebrate the violence. We’ve seen this happen before in Germany, Rwanda, and even here in America.”
Mead elaborated further, explaining the implications of such language. He noted, “There’s a reason that the shooter had phrases like ‘Hey, fascist catch’ engraved on the bullet. It reflects how deeply he internalized the left’s extreme ideology about the right.”
He emphasized that the persistent labeling of individuals as fascists or Nazis effectively dehumanizes them. This dehumanization enables individuals to justify violence against their perceived enemies without remorse.
Reflecting on his own journey, Mead noted he grew up in a mostly Democratic household and wasn’t initially concerned with political matters. His perspective shifted after watching a video by Ben Shapiro discussing socialism and communism.
“A lot of the liberal arguments are emotional and often lack practical solutions,” Mead explained. He observed that many on the left tend to attack individuals rather than engage with arguments, revealing a focus on emotional responses devoid of constructive dialogue. He remarked, “It becomes, ‘This person’s the devil, they’re a Nazi, we can’t deal with them.’ Observing this lack of productivity prompted him to reevaluate his stance towards political discourse.
Mead is adamant that conservatives need to robustly confront the left’s rhetoric. He said, “We must acknowledge what’s happening. We can oppose their rhetoric without resorting to the same tactics. It’s crucial to call out the underlying issues, framing them as problems that need addressing.” He articulated a vision where the right can advance better arguments than the left, thereby stimulating more constructive political discourse.
Mead’s closing sentiments underline the importance of productive dialogue in the political arena. He believes that raising the level of argumentation on the right is essential for combating the narratives set forth by the left. “A culture battle is unfolding, and conservatives need to amplify their voices, showcasing compelling arguments throughout the country,” he stated.
The current climate and recent tragic events highlight the pressing need for a reassessment of political rhetoric across the spectrum. As Mead aptly points out, understanding and addressing the root causes of political violence must become a priority for all involved.
In this challenging landscape, only through reasoned discourse and a commitment to truth can the cycle of violence be broken. The stakes have never been higher, and the call for responsible dialogue echoes resoundingly across the national stage.
