FIRST ON FOX: Arizona Republican Karrin Taylor Robson officially launched her campaign for governor on Wednesday. This move sets the stage for a potential showdown against another pro-Trump Republican aiming to unseat incumbent Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs in the upcoming election.
Robson, who is a small business owner and attorney, kicked off her campaign with a new advertisement focused on President Donald Trump’s anticipated return to the White House. She expressed her commitment to reclaiming Arizona from Hobbs, who has faced criticism during her tenure.
In the 2022 primaries, Robson competed against Trump-backed Republican nominee Kari Lake. Although Robson fell short in that race, Lake subsequently lost to Hobbs in the general election. Recently, Robson received an endorsement from Trump during his visit to Arizona.
Robson stated, “I thank President Trump for his strong endorsement and look forward to working with him to secure our border and make Arizona safe again.” She criticized Hobbs’ leadership, asserting, “Katie Hobbs has made it harder to live, work, and raise a family safely in this state.” Further echoing Trump’s sentiments, she added, “I will not rest until our border is secure and Arizona families are safe.”
Highlighting economic issues, Robson declared, “Katie Hobbs and Joe Biden’s insane agenda has made life more expensive and dangerous.” She assured her supporters that she would strive every day, alongside Trump, to promote stronger borders and a vibrant economy.
During remarks at Turning Point Action’s AmericaFest in December, Trump indicated his support for Robson, eagerly asking, “Are you running for governor? I think so, Karrin, ’cause if you do you’re gonna have my support, OK?” This endorsement has galvanized her campaign.
The Cook Political Report has classified the Arizona gubernatorial race as a toss-up, highlighting its competitiveness in the approaching midterms. Border security and economic challenges are expected to dominate the elections, especially as Arizona is experiencing significant policy shifts from the Biden administration.
Despite facing a challenging primary battle in 2022, Robson extended her support to both Lake and Trump in their general election campaigns for 2024. This alignment with Trump may play a crucial role in consolidating her voter base.
However, Robson is not the only contender seeking support from Trump. Advocates for Congressman Andy Biggs are optimistic that Trump will endorse him instead. Biggs has built a strong political profile, particularly due to his role in the removal of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Biggs has garnered endorsements from notable figures including Reps. Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar, and Eli Crane. Recently, Republican Senator Mike Lee praised Biggs, saying on X, “Arizonans, do yourselves a big favor and elect this man as your next governor!” This increasing support could signal a formidable challenge for Robson.
The “Building A Better Arizona PAC,” formed last month, supports Robson’s campaign efforts. Key figures behind this initiative include former Arizona Republican Party Chairman Robert Graham and ex-Arizona Senate President Karen Fann. Their backing underscores Robson’s efforts to solidify her position within the party.
The Republican primary election is slated for August 4, 2026. As the race heats up, questions remain regarding the Democratic challenge Hobbs might face. The landscape could shift dramatically depending on who emerges as her major opponent.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for a comment regarding the ongoing political dynamics in Arizona but did not receive a response in time for publication. The political chess game within the state is expected to intensify as the elections approach.
In her campaign, Robson will need to engage voters on critical issues effectively. Strengthening her messaging around border security and economic concerns will be essential. Furthermore, she must distinguish herself amid rising competition from within her party.
Moving forward, it will be crucial for Robson to maintain momentum and rally support from Trump’s base while also appealing to undecided voters. As she competes for the governorship, her ability to navigate these challenges will significantly impact her and her party’s prospects in the 2026 elections.
