Floyd’s death sparked protests and riots across the nation, yet in Portland, these demonstrations extended for more than 100 consecutive nights. Between 2019 and 2021, the city experienced a staggering 144% rise in homicides, alongside significant damage to local businesses and government property.
During the events of 2020, Trump condemned the violence unfolding in Portland, asserting that federal law enforcement resources were essential to restoring order. His administration initiated the formation of the Protecting American Communities Task Force, aimed at safeguarding federal monuments and buildings from acts of vandalism and civil disobedience.
